Whats up guys/gals,
I have been wanting to upgrade the cooling system for some time now and have been trying to do as much research as possible. I have been looking at three options but have kinda narrowed it down to two.. Those potions are AWR, PWR, and Corksport.
To start off Corksport is the cheapest and biggest one in thickness compared to both AWR and PWR, measuring at 52mm.. But bigger is not always better because as some members posted its like trying to fit 10lbs of stuff into a 5lb bag... My future options are running the GT3076 so I am a little worried about celrance issues. I know Mazdaspeed2003.5 is running the Corksport radiator with the hiboost manifold and GT35, buy my tubular mani will sit further away from the block. Also to add I am running the Perrin FMIC incase anyone is wondering.
AWR is a known company just like PWR but I am haveing a hard time finding the dimensions and specs for the PWR. Price wise they are relateively close so that is not a big factor when comparing the two. One factor about the AWR that is like is that I can also get the shroud for it as well, which would make it substantialy more expensive than the rest.
SO, what are your opinions and/or recommendations as to which one I should go with. I plan on running slim fans if I get the PWR or the Corksport.
thanks for your input.

I'm running the Corksport with a stock mani and a Gt28RS, the Slim lines fans are a must and I still have room. Although the hot pipe hits the fan on the pass. side. Clocking the turbo would solve that though.

Bump, I know there are people out there running both AWR and PWR radiators.... All comments and inputs are welcome.

i dunno how you could manage to fit both.....
sorry, had to be a smartass. bump.

are you overheating with the stock radiator?

Long story short, I broke the little plastic piece that the hose attaches to from the overflow tank to the radiator, and it leaks a little from there. I tried making a little DIY piece so the hoes can still attach somehow. Also my temperature according to microtech is usually between 90-94C or 194-201F, and I think they should be lower than that, or at least I would like them to be.

What is the average coolant temp everyone else is running at??

Also, what type of coolant do you guys recommend?? Is there certain coolant we should not run?? I have heard many people recommend Evans coolant, especially the rotary guys.

From what I remember PWR needs modification to front end - ask JDM SAM for more info ont PWR.
AWR - long one would be PnP .
You can email AWR , they very useful when it comes to information.
I bought CS radiator myself but haven't installed it yet.

I have the CS radiator, fits well and I would recommend it. I had the PWR one before this, but I really like the CS radiator.

Did you notice any temperature difference between the two??

your thermostat controls the temperature...

I've had a PWR for over 7months and haven't had any problems/leaks etc. I bought it used from alfredo(averala86) who changed over to the corksport.
I have a thumper mani and know that the corksport would be a close fit, in fact I doubt it would fit with my current setup.

I knew the thermostat plays a role, but I also figured that the radiator plays an important role in the effectiveness and efficiency of the whole cooling system. That's why I thought there might be a slight difference.

a lil test i did a while ago was to remove the thermostat. after about 20 minutes driving a got a CEL saying the engine was running to cold lol

I'm running the PWR, and with my custom setup I have about 1.5" from my slimline fan to turbo piping. It's big. I can't compare it to the CS cause I've never seen it, but the quality of the PWR is second to none. It's not only effective, but a work of art as well!

haha, that's funny... I already have a cel because of the Microtech.. I wonder if there is any negative effect of not having a thermostat.

Did you have to make any major modifications to make the PWR fit/work?? Also how many fans are you using; and lastly what do you think about the AWR fan shroud??

180*F highway, 200*F city
Every once in a while it'll creep up towards ~210*F when I'm driving like an asshole around town but not much higher than that.

I've been using the GM DexCool stuff.. but I don't think it's any better than any other coolant.

What radiator is better for stock turbo placement, thunder mani, hiboost fmic pipe, stock fans?
Basically which one wouldn't require any modification to fit?

Have you ever heard anything good/bad about Evans NPG+ Coolant?? I wouldn't have any issues running it, would I??

Dexcool in a Protege? Bye bye radiator...
Why? It's ethylene glycol and water like all other coolant..
EDIT: I guess DexCool does suck. Found a lot of complaints about it causing corrosion and gasket damage. That shit's getting flushed out tomorrow, it's only been in for a couple hundred miles so no real harm should have been done by now. Thanks for the heads up Maxx, I never though twice about it before this.

Ya, it's basically one of those "unwritten rules" or whatever, that basically states use whatever color coolant your car came with. You can get universal coolants nowadays that are compatible with both systems, but never run DexCool in an engine not designed for it, and vice versa.

When using the mounting pins to mount the fans through the radiator, will that have a "negative" effect on the durability of the radiator.

no! i am running the pwr radiator with 2 12 in spal fans and i did notice a slight drop in temp! the only thing i had to get to make it work was p5 mounting brackets!
