View Full Version : CE light after corksport dp!?
So I installed a corksport dp over 2 weeks ago. Well today I go to take it for a drive when I noticed the engine light is on. So I use the dashhawk and find out what's wrong.. It says "O2 sensor circut slow response bank 1 sensor 2". I don't wanna take it to Mazda because I will have to remove te dp. Can anyone tell me what this means or give me a way to solve this. Could I just ignore it or will it hurt the car if I let it go?
Thanks

The CS is catless right so that's why your CEL is on. Do you have an extended 02 sensor bung or diode cheater fix to avoid the CEL? It's very common for the CEL after installing a catless DP...
I don't have those fixes i've been driving it for 2-3 weeks with no cel. How do I fix this?

I ran the diode fix when I had the turboxs DP/RP on my car and it never threw a CEL code...

thanks. funny thing is since i installed the racepipe today i pushed up all the connectors and wires to the O2 sensors and when i started the car back up after the install it was gone.. weird.

it will be intermittent. the CEL fix that CS provides is a bit too long. if you use the original home made one out of two Spark plug non-foulers, it will work.

Howdy, i also have Corksport. The whole thing. And the defouler bung is built into it. My cel did not show up for a couple of weeks either. I checked the code and it was just the o2 thing. It went away, came back once or twice and have never seen it again. I had no problems with performance though. I have about 20k with the full exhaust. all is well.

This concerns me. I live in a test area. The test is a plug into the OBD2 port style test. CE lights will fail me FS. I have a CS pipe coming from Ken and was told no CEL problems with this DP.

turbo xs actually redesigned theirs since their first one to avoid getting a dtc - pretty much any catless setup will get it though eventually - the ecu actually looks for a set of parameters over a period of time - driving with the throttle at a steady rpm (like on the interstate) is the easiest way to make it come on - if you have a dash hawk you can clear the code and it will go away but the only way to truly make it go away for good is to tune the car so the ecu sees what it wants to see

I'm sure corksport has since fixed the issue. ( I had one of the first ones made)

I won't be running completely catless. The second cat will remain on the car. However, I must have NO check engine lights. I just sold my 5.0 supercharged because I was sick of changing the emissions exhaust in and out every year.

i run a mini cat right after the csdp and i throw a egr code....p0401 i think. thats the only one i throw. comes on once every thousand miles or so. hope your problems gets fixed.
yea right now im good the light went off.. only problem now is getting that midpipe to stop leaking everywhere

I installed my CorkSport down pipe and test pipe a month ago and have not gotten any CEL's (knock on wood). I installed the O2 extender as well as welded a Magnaflow high flow cat into the test pipe.

@Darth:
Test areas suck, I know, I live in one, and even if you cheat out the CEL, you will still fail. Why? Because there is a visual check too. No cat, auto-fail. Done. It sucks, because catted DPs are twice as expensive as catless. Saving for the CP-e or stainlessworks.

i live in a test area and they do no visual inspections. this is known to vary widely from region to region. if you get a CEL, corksport does have different extenders that they can swap with you to address the problem.

I think the remaining 2nd cat will suffice for visual should it come to that but, so far, new cars just get an OBD2 scan, thus my concern about the CELs. I'll do what I have to do to rid myself of them, hopefully the supplied defouler CS/Ken sent me will do the job.

The only time I ever get a CEL from CS DP is when I'm on the highway with cruise set between 80-85mph. I've had the DP for 10 months and that's the only time I get it, so I just pull the battery cable to reset it.

I just installed a CP-E TBE and after 300km I got a cel. I assumed it was P0420 (cat related even tho it has a cat) but it was a P0401 code, EGR related. Dealer cleared it but I was showing symptoms of a bad EGR, bad fuel mileage etc. The cel came back on after a bit of spirited driving.
Dealer is going to replace the EGR valve. Hope this solves the problem. Anyone got any info/experience on this?

Haha that actually made me laugh, thx! Well I'm getting the EGR valve replaced under warranty so we'll see if it fixes it at all. I guess if it comes back, "I'll let it do its thing".
Thx for the reply, appreciate it. I haven't experienced it go off yet. When does it do that usually? Just whenever it feels like it?

couple of key cycles and so many miles.
the car runs rich so i wouldnt be suprised if the new egr acts up in a few thousand miles when it gets all gunked up again.

My thoughts exactly, I figured it'll come back on but I got a new EGR valve as of now nonetheless. They said the old one was pretty gunked up, its well known these cars run rich. I also threw a P0421 code, which I think has to do with the car. I haven't researched the code, any info on this? I really need to get a dashawk or AP, to monitor and clear codes. I'm really thinking about selling my car come the Spring and getting into soemthing different. This car is great, just a big pain in the ass when you do minor mods. It has some serious weak key components.

it all depends on your driving style. i drive a lot on the highway with shell gas and synthetic oil. mine only comes on when i sit at idle for a while in stop and go traffic. it NEVER comes on during my constant driving to and from work. its really nothing. it might effect your gas mileage by a few miles per gallon at most. i wouldnt worry abotu it. this car accepts mods very well until you hit the 350whp range. then you need to work on things a bit.

Generally speaking we don't get many customers who get a CEL with our DP's in the first place. Our original DP's had a longer O2 bung that would get a slow response CEL every once in a while at cruise, like has been described on here, but the new system we sell does not do that from what we've seen.
Almost all of the people we do talk to who have the '2nd sensor rich' codes are not running the spacer, either because the person who sold them their pipe used kept it or because they didn't install it when they installed the downpipe.
If you're getting a code on your CorkSport downpipe, you need to call us and address it because that's not normal. Now, if you combine the DP with a bunch of other mods, that makes it nearly impossible for us to track, but even our full TBE won't pull a CEL for slow response.

Thanks for the replys, I guess I'll just have to drive and see what happens. I've been using Sunoco 91 here in Canada since the day I bought the car, I was told by a lot of ppl that it was good gas. Maybe I should consider using Shell? As long as it doesn't affect gas mileage and does any harm to the car, an engine light I can live with.
