over the last couple days. i have started to notice a click sound coming from my front end.
its not a continuous clicking like a cv joint. but a click when i put the car in reverse. when i initially move fwd.
i hade my left axle replaced b/c it was leaking grease.
anyone have an idea what this click could be coming from?

What was it? I've been getting the same thing lately. What's stranger still is that once I put back in the stock rear MM, the clicking sounds have gone away. The reason I took this approach was because the clicks started right around the same time when I first had the CPE 60-duro mount installed. At first, the clicks were only intermittent, kinda like how you described - going into reverse from 1st would trigger it. Then it started happening on deceleration once in a while and just a couple of days ago, it did it practically all the time on decel which got me kinda worried. I was sure the rear MM had come loose or there was something wrong with it but when I went to check, it looked perfectly fine and was solid. Swapped it out anyway thinking that if it's something else, I'd have to go in for warranty work and going in with an aftermarket mount isn't going to help my cause. It's only been a day but there's not a single click or clunk now that I have the stock mount back in!
What was causing your clicking sounds?

I was looking for a noise in my car and noticed the shaft on the passenger side between the diff and the carrier bearing slips back and forth a bit, is this related? I am getting some noises.

I just started noticing a similar sound today when I first start accellerating. It happens once or twice in most gears under normal accelleration, and if I kick it down a little more I can make it click a few more times. It's coming from the Drivers side, sounds like it's coming from right in front of me.

Go here and click on Mazda3 (you may want to save the Web site to your favorites for future use):

Go down a little past halfway on the page or CTRL +F and type in "drive shaft." It's 03-003/05.

On that page it lists the parts required. Do those Mazda 3 parts fit the speed 3 as well?

I had the same problem with my front suspension. It would crackle every time i started going, and when i let off the gas after hard acceleration. I took it to the mazda dealer and they eventually found the solution. The maintenance guy said that they had to grease the splines...i honestly dont know what that is exactly, but my car no longer makes the noise, so im happy.

Took my car into Mazda before I left the other day and the service guy told me he thinks it is the shim kit in the brakes that is causing the noise. Problem is you can't buy just the shim kit but you have to buy the front pads as a whole. Normally these types of things are covered for 1 year 10,000 miles but seeing as I'm at 2 years 16,000 I thought I was out of luck. Good thing my car if fairly recognizable and the service guys see it every once and a while, because they remembered me because he is going to bypass this and get me entirely new front pads for free for being a good customer! Hooray for Mazda not being cheap with everyone!
