So I saw a thread that someone had a similar problem but not exactly that same. So my problem is that when i downshift my second gear will pop out. Its very weird and i have notices that if i hold the shifter back or add some gas when i downgear then it wont pop out. I have heard that the shift fork sleeve gives out and that it is just a platic piece. If so then i would figure that this is a semi common problem and that I have nothing to worry about. Do you guys have any ideas?

are you sure its not the syncros i the transmission.
also you should always blip the throttle when you downshift to avoid putting to much stress on the transmission.

If it is the sycros, then the transmission is functioning properly. They are there to prevent sudden jumps in engine speed while it is engaged to the tranny which can not only put heavy stresses on transmission parts but also cause the engine to over-rev. Either one of those can cause a catastrophic failure.

They said the problem was some broken gear teeth. Also how long did your guys' front tires last for. Or how long would you expect mine I live in oregon 18 year old who drives fast but nothing crazy and this is my first stick and ya I have never done a burnout and I haven't done that many launches. I drive with DSC off about 50% of the time idk if that effects tire life or not but ya thats all the info that i can think of to help.
They first declined my claim saying the wear done to my front tires indicates that I'm a typical teenage driver and that I raced it and the transmission wouldn't be repaired under warranty. They changed they minds which is the good thing but I could use any input you guys have. Thanks

I'm at 20k and they should be good for another 5-10K.

I was riding with a fellow ms3'r and at the turnaround I saw his pop out. Not sure if it was 1rst or second, but i saw the lever flip outta the corner of my eye as he was threadin in some throttle

Ya from what I have heard this is a semi frequent problem
I just dont think mazda makes the engine stronge enough to handle the torque in lower gears

I know from excessive rocking (stock mounts)...the shifter gates get closer/further depending on what gear your shifting to. You can actually feel the engine rock into gear. I would get some mounts and see if that helps.

TRZ Poly dogbone. Some vibes at startup and in 1st gear, but nothing to loose your mind over.

tires are hard to judge. I am on my 4th set and about to move onto my 5th set. Im at 28k in 16 months. But I also drive the shit out of the car.

i got to 24k-ish on the stock toyos. they do tend to wear relatively quickly due to the shallow tread and relatively soft compound. That and they're on a fwd car with tons of torque.

You launch your but you dont do burn outs? Kind of the same right? You are burning out to get the best launch. With the DSC off your tires are spinning through 3rd easily if you are all over the throttle. Sounds like the car has been driven and needs some of the curing that mods will do for it, namely a MM. Glad they are warrantying it for you! Dealerships can be a pain sometimes but that is the name of the game now for any dealership. Manufacturers are going to shy away from warranty work on wear and tear items. Glad your parents feel they can give you things like a nice car like that but a MS3 probably isnt the best car to learn how to drive stick on.

Had this problem today at a local auto-x. It would happen when I went to redline when there was not enough time to shift to 3rd and then got onto the brakes hard. Went for the gas again and it was in neutral. Happened three times today, twice in one run! I have a rear motor mount with a street bushing but it still is stiffer. Anyone find the solution for this yet?
