"A boisterous upstart unwilling to cave into the substantial motorsports pedigrees of the Evo and STi, the 2009 Mazda Mazdaspeed3 follows the Turbo 4 formula but lacks an all-wheel drive powertrain. Playing the “if you don’t have torque steer you’re not making enough power” card, the MS3 coerces 263 horsepower through its front wheels. Can a front drive take on these all-wheel giants? Do you have the driving skill to out-duel other players in this hard-charging underdog? This Mazda won’t disappoint"
The MS3 is being compared to the 2008 STI and 2006 Evo MR. I love the, “if you don’t have torque steer you’re not making enough power.” I think torque steer just gives our car personality.

Torque steer sucks and pollutes the steering on a superb car and anyone that makes excuses for it needs a reality check IMO...
Having said that I love the speed3 going to test drive some tomorrow and it is still tops on my list. But dont make excuses for the cars short coming. Drive a 280lb/ft rwd car compared with the speed 3 (('m thinking G37 or 335i) and the difference especailly in corners at WOT is huge....

I hear ya...
I may be getting my first crack at a similarly powered RWD car next weekend...Hyundai is having a driving event for the Genesis coupe at Fed Ex Field, just outside of DC.

Yeah the "300 hp" coupe that can't break 100 in the 1/4. Must be really small horses in Korea.

theres a reason why a well modified honda will hold its own (even owning) with A LOT of AWD/RWD vehicles thats modded to hell. honda being honda an having a shit track record for being "ricer" they still can pull some shit out of their hat. FWD is underrated in my opinion, and guess what? I LOVE MY FWD MAZDASPEED3.

dont get me wrong, I love my MS3 so much, but that kind of power through the rear wheels is phenominal. When my mom lets me drive her 335( rare, of course, because im only 16:)...I have lots of fun. So easy to control, and it takes off. For a stock car, that thing throws down..

I don't care who makes it and I don't have any racially-based motivations. The coupe looks the business but, it just doesn't deliver, that's all that matters to me. I was excited at first but, as testing reveals, they have some work to do. Nothing disgusts me more than making promises you don't deliver on.
My friend's 135i M-package boasts 300 horse in an around 3400 pound package. That sucker's testing out at 13s at 105, which bears out 300 horse pretty well. The Hyundai is lighter and supposedly has the same power but it can't bust a ton. I've been drag racing for decades and I can do the math.

the torque curve on a turbo car is usually alot better than a N/A car.

Hyundai Genesis tuned to run on 87 octane! Cheap gas and 306 HP! Tune it to run premium and watch out!

135i has 300ft/lbs at 1400rpm
Genesis has 266ft/lbs at 4700rpm

When's the last time you had your eyes checked? 306 HP sounds pretty zing to me.

That's just it, it AIN'T 306 hp, man, not breaking a ton in the quarter tells you that for sure. Wherever the torque peaks at is largely irrelevant, the speed out the back door tells you what is really going on. It's an around 3300 pound car, add a 160 pound driver, it should run very low 13s at about 105 mph. The times the mags are turning in indicates closer to 260 horse than 306. I don't know about you but, 40+ horse off the advertising hasn't been seen since they stopped rating engines at the crank in the early 70s.
