View Full Version : Smoke when down shifting?

So every time down shift from like 3rd down to 1st my car smokes kinda bad for about 3 seconds then stops after idle. I just replaced the stock spark plugs hoping that would help but it didn't. Does anyone have any ideas?

leaking valve seal, bad piston rings. Had the same problem and it was a leaking valve seal.

You never say what kind of smoke? My guess would be your dumping oil by the seals on the turbo since your causing the rpm to jump extremley high and increasing oil psi with no load on the turbo.

change your oil to 5w 40 synthetic, if the smoke continuesthen u need a new turbo/pcv system (pcv is apparently being reworked by mazda to lower the pressure so our cars wont smoke.) go to the mazda speed 4 ums dot org site and go to turbo induction, there is a tsb notice from mazda. has all the infromation you need regarding the turbo and pcv system.

I don't go from 3rd to first 1st, I go 3rd, 2nd, then to 1st and it smokes. My a/f jump to 29.08 as well when I down shift. Also when I just shift normally they jump to the 20's.

dahm, that dont sound good at all, do u have a tune of any sort? like even a map off the ap?? idk about the smoking, wit these cars that color smoke usually means the turbos gone or going, but it could b thoe seals the other kid was talkin about..
