Hi, I have been considering a Protege5 for a number of years now. I found an '02 standard with 160K for under $4K. The car seems to be in good shape, though it needs an o2 sensor. I am a previous owner of a number of 90's Miatas and really like Mazdas, and am able to do basic maintenance on my cars. Any thing I should look out for before purchasing this car? The tires seem good. Not sure about the last T-belt replacement. I want something that is fun to drive, yet has room for extra stuff and this car seems to fit that description. Are they comfy on long trips?

Thanks for reading. Any advice is appreciated,
Kelly

Lots of road noise, and there's a whistle from the windshield weather stripping at higher speeds for some( I think that's where it's coming from). You might have to get progressive springs if you want a softer ride too I think. That's what I'm doing anyways.

Edit: I hit post too early. So yeah. sound deaden your car, get better springs and shocks, and a rear strut tower bar. Other than that, It's a really fun car!
