Not sure if this is the right place.
I like the idea of having the backup camera but am not interested in the nav or the power liftgate.

Just noticed that the auto dimming with homelink comes standard with the GT. If I install the backup camera system, does this mean that i won't have the homelink? Will this affect the rain sensor?

danz75,
Currently, there is no interior mirror that has a display AND homelink together.
Gentex make most of the interior mirrors found on Mazda and Toyota (maybe Honda also). However, Gentex does not produce the one with display. The one with display has auto-dimming, but no Homelink.

RainSensing is located at the base of mirror. An adapter kit will take care of that.
When buying, you need to get the correct kit (with or without rainSensing).

I hope that this answers your question.

Ceric,
That's what I thought. I took a look at this http://www.mazdaparts.org/macxbacawiau.html but it does not say if it is for vehicles equipped with rain sensing.

You see the big black box at the base of the mirror?
It is where the rainsensor is. The installation kit will come with another box to replace your current box plus some small stuffs. Make sure your ask for a kit with rain sensing when you buy.

The installation is a bit involved (with camera) if you decide to do it yourself. Try to find an installation instruction if you can and assess the difficulty first. I did the Homelink/Dimming mirror myself (w/o camera display since I got a NAVI w/ backup camera already). My installation is half as easy/difficult as the one you plan to do.

He could get a MP3 player or portable GPS with a video input and use that for his backup. Otherwise, get the backup mirror and add Homelink someplace else.

danz75, what do you control with your Homelink (makes and models), and do you have the moonroof?

CX9 SportOwner,
I have not yet taken delivery of the vehicle. Will probably make the deal this weekend. I use a craftsman garage opener so will probably use the homelink for that. However, I think since we have small kids, i value the backup camera more so will probably forgo the homelink and compass. The vehicle does have a sunroof.

I do not intend to get the assist package because I do not need the nav or the power lift gate.

I am researching after market backup cameras now to see if there's anything useful.

I'm sure you found the opener remote clip doesn't fit the visor well, nor do you want to damage the visor anyway. I added a button on the overhead console wired to the circuit board of my garage remote, but I don't have the moonroof controls.
I've seen guys buy Homelink visor modules and mount it in the headliner for a built in look.
