SS AFC in California

I read somewhere that if you have a piggy back system of any kind on your car that it will fail smog and you will get a fat fine in CA. But, I heard from a mechanic that it was ok as long as they are capable to switch back to stock settings too. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

Anything that modifies the factory smog equipment is illegal. Injectors are part of that so yes technically it is illegal.

Damn. Is there any way for anyone (outside of smog shops) to tell that you have it on your car?
