I have a 97 protege lx. It's a 1.5 5 speed 149000 miles. I started it up about 2 weeks ago and the oil light stayed on and I heard a knocking from the engine. I removed the valve cover to find the tensioner for the chain that goes to both cams wasnt holding tension and that was my noise. I started it without the valve cover and there wasnt much oil squirting out either. I assumed it was the oil pump but found 2 thrust washers in my oil pan and noticed my crank moves about 1/4 inch so I'm thinking this is my issue. I have the new washers now but can't figure out where they go because I never saw where they came from. Could someone please tell me where they go? Maybe send a pic or give me a link to a helpful page? I need to get my car going for work it's been out of service for 2 weeks now. Any help is great appreciated!!!! Thank you for looking.

If you oil light was on, and you kept drivin, your engine is prob done. There is no timing chain on these cars, there is a timing belt. If you get a good shop manual it should show where they go.
