View Full Version : Surprise, it's been lowered

So I bought my 07 Speed6 about a week ago, and discovered that it was pulling to the right. Also noticed that the negative camber on the rear wheels is significant. So I went into the dealer and asked the question if the car had been lowered and by who and when. This wasn't revealed at time of purchase. The car was lowered with aftermarket parts which should effectively void the warranty correct? Now once the alignment is done, if they discover that if it is out of spec range then we have a problem, or do I?
They sold me a car with remaining warranty, did not tell me it was lowered, so if there is a problem with the lowering then it's on them to repair at no cost in my opinion. In the meantime while I'm waiting for the alignment next week, I want to find out what the guy put in and how much it's been lowered.
Is there a way to measure drop without pullin off a wheel? I don't know what measurements to compare to with stock ride height.
BTW, I like the lowered stance, more concerned though if it was done properly, and if the negative camber is too much.

The big question at this point is going to be which springs you have installed. If they're not designed specifically for the MS6 (which can be a problem) you need to go back and complain. At the very least, get you a set of stock MS6 springs, or the money for them and allow you to get proper parts.
As for your alignment specs, I'd guess your rear camber is in the area of -1.5 to -2.5 deg. on each side. I know my H&Rs left it at -2.5/-2.4 in the rear, and +-2.6 is allowed per factory specs IIRC.

here's pics of the front and rear clearance and of the rear camber. About 1-1/2 iinches from the fender lip to rubber. Any thoughts?
And the tires are 215 45/ZR 18 on stock rims

If you can, slide under the rear and look at your springs, see what brand they are. Overall though, it looks pretty good.

Will try and jam my head under there, so you think the camber looks ok?

Looks like mine with the H&Rs to be honest. I'd prefer something a little less, but wait until you get an actual readout from the alignment.

Couldnt read any numbers or brand name underneath. They're black in color if that means anything.

Not really sure which springs those are. Next step would be to remove one from the rear (which is easy really) and see if there are markings. If you need info, let me know.

Anyone else have pics of their negative camber to compare with mine?

Eibach is the only company I know of that sells black springs for the MS6

Bc coilovers also have black rear springs. If you could, take as many pictures of the front or rear suspension and post them up and we will all take a look.

No, they're more of a metallic gray color, and they're stamped with the info right on each spring.

ok, lied in a puddle and stuck my camera up in there, please see attached.
If I have time after work tomorrow I'll take a wheel off and get a better look.

To be honest it looks like mine. I have Eibach Pro-Kit Springs and they are the same color. I can tell where the dust is wiped off that you have little sparkles or w/e and I know the Pro-Kit has that cuz I installed them about 3 months ago.
I just think it looks a little more "slammed" then mine.
*** Edit ***
I just looked at your pics again and looked at mine on my cell phone and it's about the same. If I would guess, they are exactly what I have.

i think you should be fine with the springs just on your car. my car had eibach pro kit springs on it when i bought it, and no one ever said anything about it. also, aren't eibachs marked with a with logo on the springs? mine still has the eibach and something else on it.

Yea, it has super tiny white lettering but its not very long and could be facing the front where he can't see.

Thanks guys for your input. Car is agetting aligned as I type this so I will know in a couple hrs and report back. I will also post the alignment report for you guys to review and comment. In the meantime does anyone have pics of their negative camber that they can post, for comparison sake?

Ok the results are in. The first owner had it lowered but never got an alignment after.
So it was all out. Take a look at the reports and let me know what you guys think.
Thanks

Specs look good from what I can tell.
I don't think taking pics of rear wheels will tell you much. It's hard to notice one degree of camber from a pic. Hopefully it rides and drives a lot better than before.

The report makes it look like he left your front left caster out of spec?

You can't adjust caster on the car.

if you buy the spc balljoints and don't line them up correctly you can actually use this to adjust caster on this car. the stupid shop that did my alignment did align the one correctly at all and it actually took off a whole degree of caster. i'm tempted to go back there and tell them to line it up correctly, but everything is in spec so i dont know how worried i should be about it.

Well I'm noticing now that when going slow and take a sharp right turn like into a parking lot I hear a bit of a knock in the front passenger side of the car. Any ideas what that could be from? A friend said that springs can sometimes move a bit from their seat and that could be what I'm hearing?

I'd take it back and have them take a peek at it. Could have been something they adjusted that the car didn't care for.
After I read that, I realized I commented on your alignment specs...I'm an idiot.

I just put the new rear mount in, guess I better take that out before I go back in. They will definitely notice the vibes.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about it. That won't be the reason you're feeling something in your suspension.

I doubt they'll notice it, unless they pull the splash guard off, which they shouldn't be doing in this case.
lol if they notice, Suprise car came with upgraded motor mounts.

Had my car in a pro alignment shop today to diagnose my clunking.
Front endlink bushings are toast. Also found out that my springs are Eibach Pro Kit. Spring installl done by the first owner is all good, so good news. While they fix the endlinks, I'm going to get the Whiteline RSB installed and probably the rearward diff bushings replaced as well while it's on the hoist.
Good to hear you got things all figured out. The RSB is a nice addition, you'll really like it.

Is a front Swaybar upgrade worth it over stock?

The car has a tendency to understeer, and by changing the FSB, you'll amplify that. Personally, I found that adding springs and the RSB, along with a rear brace gave the car enough rear stiffness to counter much of that understeer and bring it back to a more neutral position with the DSC on.
