View Full Version : Can a US marketed CX-9 be reprogrammed for Canadian running lights?

I have a CX-9 that was built according to specs for the US market. As such, it does NOT have daytime running lights: when I switch the lights to "Auto" they only turn on at dusk.

I see that cars intended for the Canadian market have daytime running lights which is a legal requirement in Canada.

Since I prefer to use my car "Canadian style", is it possible to get it reprogrammed so that "Auto" translates to "Always On"? I'd like to do this so I can just "set and forget" the lights.

Presumably, this should be *easy* to do...but that's why I'm concerned. Easy things are typically hard as hell to get done.

My 09 Touring (no auto setting) autoshuts them off after like 20 seconds after turning off the vehicle when I have the light switch in the on position. So i just leave my light switch on all the time and don't worry about it.

Armchair Bronco:
According to answers from previous threads on this, it will not be easy.
The wiring of headlights are quite different between US and Canadian models.
It is not a simple hack.

Like TI2TT said, keep the headlight to ON position, it will shut off in 20 seconds. No worry there. You will just be consuming a bit more energy.
DRL is usually using the far light with 1/3 intensity.
