View Full Version : wheel color on a spicy??

So, i'm not really very close to making a wheel purchase, but several of the wheels for sale in the FS section have me jonesin for some. I got to thinking what color would look best on a spicy orange car, and i really can't decide... i looked through the photos i've saved over the years and i found very very few spicy's with aftermarket wheels. If the car was red, black, blue or white i would probably go with gold or bronze, but i'm not sure that would work on orange. I don't know if a silver similar to the stock color would be better, or something darker, like a gunmetal.

The wheels i've come across that are really like are these: http://www.wheelwarehouse.com/p-1296-volk-racing-wheels-gts-titanium-gunmetal.aspx (and it seems in the other pics of seen of them they turn out lighter than in that picture)

any opinions, or pics of your spicy with aftermarket wheels??

gunmetal or just black both look sexy on the spicy, not too sure about any other color though. thats a tough kind of car to pull off some good rims.

yeah, its a tough call. I've never been big on black wheels... it seems to me pointless to get nice rims, because its too hard to see the details of the rim when they're black! but thats just me. What do you think of the wheels i linked to?

I like bronze and even gold on Spicy. Shadow102 briefly had gold OEM P5 rims on his and it looked good. I have a video at home I'll try to post up later today if I can remember.

Those rims in the link are hot. Is there going to be a rub issue witht there being a big dish like that though on thoughs rims?

i dunno... you can get that model in 18x7.5 which i figure should work, but i dunno about what offsets are needed for this car vs whats offered and all that...

EDIT: looked up the offsets, it looks like you can get 18x7.5 with a +49 offset, which according to Rishie's Fitment recipe should work with a 215/35/18 tire

I agree about it being hard to match a nice colored rim to the spicy The bronze does look good, But not great IMHO. I've photoshopped a ton of rims onto my Spicy to see how she would look. I came up with a nice black rim with orange painted lip, a stock colored rim that was less "blocky" and an orange painted rim. I think the real key to making the spicy look better is getting rid of some of the material on the spokes openning that area up does wonders for the look

How about the Volks VR-G2's?!

If you want to be "technical", they're "Ceramic" Bronze. Not sure how much of a difference from regular Bronze though. I'll be honest though, I was a little more hooked on the Gunmetal look but I'm loving the way these look now. Here's a few pics for you.

I think white would look sweet, but gunmetal or the ceramic bronze would look sweet for sure.

White would be an interesting color to see on the Spicy. Anyone have a pic of that?

The rims in your link would look good. Just remember the lip will be alot smaller because of the offset you have to run. Personally I would get SF Challenges in Mercury Silver (I think that is what the finish is called) if going with a five spoke Volk rim.

yeah those are real nice also... initially i didn't like the extra 'stuff' in the area where it says volk racing, but after thinking about it i would imagine that would help our puny brakes not look so small.

What size and offset are the wheels/tires on the pic in your sig?? I like those wheels alot and it looks like they fit very well...

Greasemonkey, the car looks good!! I like the bronze, but i don't know if that would be the route i would go.

Actually it was the worst time for me to be shooting cause it was right around the middle of the day. But I use a NikonD40 and I was using my 55-200mm lens. I'm still trying to get used to the camera/lenses I have. I was either shooting in "S" (shutter speed) mode or auto, can't really remember
1st pic)ISO 400, 1/2000th, f/5.6 @155mm(just messing around a little)
2nd pic)ISO 280, 1/2000th, f/5.6 @155mm
3rd pic)ISO 200, 1/640th, f/6.3 @80mm

Mine are 18x7.5 +48 and 215/35 tires, Enkei RPO3's in the SBC finish. JDM Sam also has the same rims as me if you wanted to see a spicy with the brighter finish style rim.

Those linked wheels are niiiice. (2thumbs)

Don't be afraid to run a lower offset. I'm at a 42 offset right now and not having any problems with it. I rolled the rear fenders in the rear...just in case...but other than that good to go. I'm even thinking about running some spacers in the front.

jmv
07-03-2009, 09:54 AM
okay dumb question... does a lower offset (ie, 42 instead of 48) mean the wheel moves in toward the center of the car, or further away from it??

It sounds like the lower number means it moves it further out?? Wouldn't it be better to run whatever setup is closer in to the center of the car and run spacers if needed??

Just trying to understand this stuff...

Lower number does mean further out. When you have a car where the spokes of the rim don't come all the way out to the edge of the rim and have a lip it is better to have a lower offset It makes the lip more pronounced. A lower offset will also help create a concave look to the spokes of the rim. The Work Emotion Kai's are a good example to look at for this. I don't like them in a high offset but in a low offset like +13 to 0 they are one of my favorite rims.
