I thought I read recently that the Speed3 doesn't have a dipstick for the transmission. So is there any other way to gauge how much oil we have in the tranny case? I had one for the WRX and I checked it periodically to make sure all was kosher. And it came in handy for when I changed out the fluid. So when it comes time to change out the tranny fluid, do you just fill until it overflows and then put the drain bolt back in?

Manual trans dont typically have dipsticks, only autos. you can check the level your fluid by checking the fill bolt to see if the fluid is just under the opening.

Hmmm...didn't realize it was atypical for manual trannies to have it. Good to know. So checking the fluid by undoing the fill bolt; I'm assuming all four need to be jacked up instead of just the fronts on ramps?

unless your tranny is leaking, there's no need to check it, which is why there is no dipstick!
autos OTOH need a dipstick because they are very sensitive to changes, especially since any drop in level results in reduced line pressures and you can use the dipstick to look at the condition of the fluid
