Take a look at BMW’s most fuel efficient 3-Series to date, which is set to combine good economy and low emissions with a rewarding driving experience (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/237403/bmw_316d_revealed.html#) when it goes on sale in September.

The BMW 316d has a range of over 800 miles and, powered by a 1,995cc four-cylinder diesel engine, offers an average of 62.8 mpg. Coupled with CO2 emissions of just 118g/km, this saloon is the cleanest 3 Series BMW have ever made.

In terms of performance, the BMW 316d’s engine is linked to a six-speed manual gearbox and has a 116Hp output with a torque of 260Nm from 1,750rpm, delivering a 0-62 time of 10.9 seconds onto a top speed of 125mph.

The BMW 316d ES Saloon will be on sale as of September, priced from £23,330, and its economy and CO2 emissions put it in the VED road tax bracket band C (costing £35 per year) and in the 13% benefit-in-kind band.

i would still like the 335d that gets low-to mid 30's MPG and 6.X from 0-60!

In real world driving the 335d averages 40+. I've heard this from 6 customers of mine and from the NA BMW rep for the diesel product line.

Damn, I had just assumed it was coming here until you pointed that out. What was I thinking! The US getting a 60+mpg cleaner diesel vehicle. yeah right....That would be too logical.

Americans would rather go buy Hybrids that have a larger carbon foot print than these cars.

If they stuck this in the 1-series hatchback, and made the price reasonable (25k or so) it would sell like hotcakes here.

the fact that the masses believe a hybrid to be a cleaner car that's 'better' for us keeps awesome vehicles like this from having success over here.

dammit.

Yeah I know, they should bring it over here though is what I'm saying.

The Prius, Insight, Camry Hybrid, Altima Hybrid, and Fusion Hybrid's annual carbon foot print is 2/3 to 3/4 less than the VW Jetta Diesel.
