That is a 98 grill. Old emblem I believe was 95-97.

they updated the emblem for the 98 and made a similar grill but it was flat across the front. It didn't have the trim that stuck out at the top. they look very similar but this is definitely 99-00. He just took the chrome piece off and painted it shiny black. I have the exact same one and took it out.
