Meet the Hummer-crusher
See more Knight XV pics
Giant. Gargantuan. Colossal. Supersized. Mammoth. Whichever way you say it, the Knight XV is big. Very big.
Take a look at the Knight XV alongside the Hummer H2. The Hummer H2 is not a small car. The Hummer H2 is a very large car, in fact. But it looks tiny, miniscule, laughably petite next to the Knight XV. The Knight XV is big.
So what the hell is it? It’s a luxury armoured vehicle (honest) from Canadian-based firm Conquest Vehicles. Inspired by the Gurkha military truck and based on the underpinnings of a Ford F-350 truck, it measures just over six metres in length and tips the scales at five-and-a-half tonnes. The Knight XV is big.
Part of the reason for that weight is that the Knight XV is built to withstand, well, just about anything. Constructed of ballistic hardened steel, ballistic fibreglass and six centimetre thick armoured glass, it’ll withstand fire from Kalashnikovs, Dragunovs and Kasporovs. OK, we made the last one up. He’s a chess player.
The Knight XV is powered by a Ford-sourced 6.8-litre V10 putting out 400bhp and 500lb ft of torque. It'll run on E85 ethanol, so it's er, green. Sort of.
Conquest boasts that it will ‘comfortably seat six professional basketball players’ which, if you were in any doubt about the size of the thing, puts it in the ‘really very enormous' category.
Oh, and one final indicator of scale. See those wheels? Well, the alloys in the middle are 20-inchers. Getting a flavour for the bigness yet?

yeah, cuz we're not using enough fossil fuels. lol we need more vehicles like this on the road. screw smart cars!

Not that is makes much of a difference. Just means it will suck the ethanol about twice as fast as it will suck gas. Reason being, ethanol only has about half the potential energy and normal gasoline...FAILURE

in addition it will have the acceleration of a geo metro due to the lower energy... so while he's buring all the ethanol in the world, the rest of us will either pay double what we would have, or switch back to gas.

lol it really sounds like a uber sucky idea to run a armored vehicle the size of a dump truck on anything besides 110 octane race gas...if I am a celebrity then I want to be able to GTFO if need be!!

mikeyb,
I wish I would have had two of those M2's on my track instead of one and a Mk19. Mk19's are cool and all but they jam like crazy and hitting people with grenades is frowned upon in some areas of the world.
This is what I was commanding:

Once you crush a Volvo in one of those... every other type of road rage seems mild in comparison.

Where has Conquest Vehicles been for the past 3-4 years? No newspaper? No Innanet? (scratch)
Oh, wait, it uses E85, that would be like 5 Miles Per Corn Field Acre on that vehicle, that saves the day ;)

If tuned correctly, it actually makes more power than regular gas. I remember reading that the Ford Taurus made about 5% more HP when it was running E85.
What would make the truck better is if it were Diesel, then we could use biodiesel and not use any fossil fuels.

then why does your mileage plummet?

Yeah but that does absolutely nothing for gas mileage at all, and then you are talking about pure ethanol in a finely tuned engine, in this and most cases it is E85 (85% ethanol, 15% petrol incase someone didn't know) which has to be recognized by a computer and make adjustments on the fly to tune the engine. Not really ideal for gas mileage either way.
The ethanol simply does not have the same energy as gasoline.
Just a quick comparison...http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byfuel/ffv2000.shtml
And sorry I did a science project on this stuff when it was first coming mainstream so I am loaded lol

who cares about gas mileage how freaking cool would it be to have one? I wonder how long it will take for someone to turn that into a stretch limo

Try living in Iowa - you can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting the broad side of a new ethanol plant that''s been built. Economic revitalization at the cost of our energy independence. Gotta love America (yupnope)

Yeah, I doubt cost would be your biggest worry if you bought one of these things. I would think being mistaken for hostile ground forces by U.S. spy drones would be above that :)

I think you have that backwards... energy independence at the cost of the economy. and I have to laugh that fuel costs are higher running E85...

Instead of grow crops for food the goverment is growing crops for fuel. Just stupid in my door.
