I test drove a Mazda3 today. I generally liked the car, but there was a wind noise the happened whenever it got up to speed (about 50MPH). Almost like a window was cracked or door wasn't quite shut, but there didn't seem to be anything loose and we couldn't quite pinpoint the source.
Is this a common problem with the model or was there just something wrong with this car?

That's what happens when the car is inherently smiling...it whistles. :p jk
I'd say try driving another car and seeing if it does the same thing. Low end or high end, a genetic problem will be a genetic problem.*
*unless the part changes throughout the vehicles, then the same model will show the same genetic problems

I get the normal wind noise when I am at highway speeds +++. But nothing like a whistling or anything.

I have a 2010 S sedan and I get the usual highway noise but nothing like a whistle. My guess is something is a bit off on that car.

Happy to report I have heard no whistling of any sorts from my vehicle thus far.
Even the wind-rush is generally subdued relative to what I am used to driving.
