Considering the new 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 is just around the corner, it's nice to read that the current Speed3 is still earning some praise. This time it's from Edmunds.com

Consumer's top rated vehicle awards (http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/consumerstoprated/2009/index.html)

The 5 is also mentioned :)

1st gen MS3 FTW. I can't wait to see if the 2nd gen will win as many awards as the 1st gen did.

Of course it will. Too bad they didn't go with AWD for 2nd gen. That would make the looks not even matter. Quatro ist fur sissies!

i guess i can live with having my car being called a wagon if it means we can claim best in class.

Gen 1 may turn out to be quicker and faster. I think Gen 2 will have the same drivetrain but with wider spaced gearing and a couple hundred pounds more portly.

The gearing change may make it a better highway car and may improve CAFE mileage. It might let it get to 60 without having to shift twice, which might offset the weight gain on the 0-60 times. Hope I'm wrong on some of this.

Scion xD = sedan (boom03)

Mazda3 = wagon (hand)

Uh, can we try for a "hatchback" category next time? (smash)

Not dissing the good press, but come on...

good post. i'm having a hard time keeping up with all the awards our car is receiving. i bet it holds its value really well, even after the 2nd gen comes around. (the 2010 appearance will no doubt help that)

i think the speed3 is just fine the way it is. anymore improvements on this car like with the hp or the drivetrain(AWD) and the price as well as the insurance is gonna go up a lot. if you want AWD then just go buy an sti or an evo.

Maybe that's what Mazda is aiming for after a few more generations of MS3s.
