Has anyone removed the headliner on the CX-9 to install a dvd flip mount. I’m planning to install a flipmount dvd myself and would like to know if it’s easy or hard to have it removed. It’s not equped with a moon roof. I’m pretty good with DIY proyects and if I can save the install money I’ll go on line and buy one. Since the same flipmount dvd that are sold in store you could find them online for about $75 to $85 less.

There are a couple of threads here with people who have had it installed. Don't know if there are any DIY's on it though.

well, i can tell you it isn't easy. you have to take off all the pillar covers, trunk box, and visors, and remove the headliner. i can give you tips if you need them.

here are some pics.

Your photos really illustrate how careful you need to be working on a modern car. Wiring harnesses, and especially the air curtains can be damaged or interfered with if you aren't super careful.

Looks like the DVD bracket is already there.

yeah, there is a bracket there, but i suspect you need the mazda oem install kit to really make it work well. better than nothing, though. we ended up having to put a little wooden shim to use on one end, since it is not the same depth on both ends. in the end it worked nicely, though. there is a padding on the top of the headliner that makes it really annoying to thread screws. i would recommend removing at least part of it. you have to be really super careful not to bend or damage the headliner, though.

and yes, you should be really careful around those side-curtain airbags. that could easily end in heartache.

you also have to be really careful just removing the plastic molding around the pillars, or you will break the connectors. the last thing you want to end up with is a rattly car. (well, maybe not the last thing. i would suspect the last thing you want to end up with is a car with screw holes going through the roof.)

i would also note that a wiring diagram of the vehicle would have been helpful.

So where's the picture of it installed and playing from the back seat? That's definitely something I would not feel comfortable doing diy. Mostly because I'm not mechanically inclined....but also because it looks like a major pain in the ass.

Nice. Looks good. I've got to get me one of those, or the ones that attach to the headrests. Just got to find the money....
