View Full Version : Smart Key question
Does anyone know if it's possible to use a regular programmable flip key instead of the smart key?
It looks like with 2 smart keys you can program a 3rd smart key, but I wanted to get a regular flip style key off ebay and have that work as well..

Please define "have that work" in your statement.
A flip key for a SKS would only allow you to open the doors (thru keyholes).
You can't start the engine at all. Is that what you want?

He can't take the cover off and use the flip key like the backup key? Would the car not recognize the remote commands, and the ignition chip?
I have 2 smart keys, we wanted to get a 3rd key that would start the car as well....
I could get another smart key off ebay and program it, but its about $100.
A normal chipped key looks like about $30, but I wasnt sure if I could re-program it...
When we're travelling or camping we like to keep a spare key just in case : )
According to the key instructions you can have up to 8 keys programmed, but thats refering to the chipped keys, not the credit card style smart keys...

I guess someone has to be the pioneer to try it.
I am not sure it would work. I won't bet my money on it.
It comes down to the question that "Are the chips in a SmartKey the same as the one in a flip key?"
I have no answer to that. Maybe someone can answer that.
