View Full Version : Timing Belt on a Gen1

What's the best way to go at this beast? My step-son is 2 hours away in a Gen1 with a bad water pump, so going to have to pull the timing belt to get to it.. I've got the AllData info, but his 'mechanic' (who I don't know) is saying he would need to pull the engine to do this. Is he hosing? Every other pully/timing situation I've dealt with (granted, on other cars) I've been able to go thru the Fender lining.. Is it the same here?

No you do not need to pull the engine to change the waterpump and tbelt. Its done in the car. The engine mount on that side comes off and you raise/lower the engine to squeeze the pump out. Did mine a few months ago.
