Ive heard some people say you have to wait 30 second before shutting the mazdaspeed 3 off, I dont do that with mine...should I do it?
Do you guys do it?

After spirited or hard driving I might let it idle for 30sec to a min but for normal daily driving I dont bother.

Even though a lot of people say a turbo timer isn't necessary, it's nice to have one so you can roll up your windows after taking out the key :D

Or you could leave the car running while you undo your seatbelt, roll up your windows, and gather your stuff. Then you wouldnt even need a turbo timer.

The manual just calls for 10 seconds of idling to cool it down after freeway driving. I take that as Spirited driving as well. Do what you can, cant hurt.

I try to at least wait a little bit before I shut it off. Usually the time it takes me to gather my cellphone\wallet.

Always, Maybe not 30 seconds but I do wait 10-20. I commute on the freeway and they drive 2 miles through residential, most of the time I just use that time for cooldown. But If i just tore up the town and pulled into my driveway I wold for sure wait 30 seconds or so.
I find the best is just drive a mile or so at normal crusing speeds, that seems to be enough.
If you fan comes on after you turn her off, shes still hot :)

Interesting. Mine says 30.
I don't do it all the time... only after extended driving under load, like pulling off an uphill mountain road. Modern turbos fair quite well under normal driving conditions.
When in doubt, every little bit helps. I still turn off the radio, unlock the doors, and undo my seat belt before turning off the motor.

I never wait. On my previous turbo Audi that I owned for 8 years, I never waited either and never had an issue. What I do, though, when I first start her up is to make sure that my water temp is up before I really get on it (since that kinda tells me that the oil is most likely hot enough to have some fun, since the thick, cold oil likely strains the turbo), and when I do get on it hard, I just make sure that I drive like grandma for a minute or so before shutting her off, that way it gives time for the oil/turbo to cool down and not to burn up in the blinding hot turbo.

I let it idle for a couple of minutes if I've been playing. If it was a normal drive, such as my commute, I just shut it off. If I've been leaning on it, I also put fans on the motor for a while to draw out the heat.

Yeah, I always let her cool down for around 10-30 seconds after normal driving and around a minute after long or hard drives.

After normal driving I let it idle for 10 sec. Basically I get my stuff, grab my backpack, stare at my sexy speed 6, get back in and turn it off. After spirited driving if I dont get a chance to drive slow before parking I will let it idle a minute.
Turbo timers seem nice but for the price and the hassle . . . Not to mention I don't think I would be able to leave my car idleing as I walk away. Next thing you know you walk back 5-6 hours later to find your car still idleing lol.

Like some other here, I use my own best judgement. After a hard drive, I always take my time gathering cell phone, putting away Garmin, etc. to let it cool down for 30+ seconds. But after a normal drive, if I cruise slowly thru my neighborhood to get to my house, I consider that my cooldown time- probably a better cooldown than sitting still in the driveway because you're getting a 20mph "wind" assist thru the radiator.
But if I pull into a parking lot or other situation where I did not get the "cruise time" to let it cool, I will make sure I give it at least 15-20 seconds at idle before shutting down.
I had a Turbo Timer on my Supra, and I just didn't like it. I like to park my car in gear, which you are technically supposed to do. It was hell to break myself of that habit, and I eventually just ditched the TT, realizing that it didn't take that much time out of my life to let the turbo cool.

Really hot days or after I've been playing, I let it sit for a minute or two. I find on really hot days, 30 seconds isn't enough and the fan turns on after I shut her down.
Normally, I'll let it cool for the 15-30 seconds. When I turn the corner by my place, I put her in neutral and coast down the street. Pull in front of the house [no garage :'( ] and start gathering my things. Turn off radio, roll up windows, take one last look at the nice red lights in the dash, then turn it off. Kind of a ritual I guess. :)

i always let it idle a bit... usually about 30sec to a minute... also before i take off in it. i idle all the way through the neighborhood (3 minutes) and then maybe idle for a bit while we get unbuckled, etc.
i've kind of made a habit of it now...

Meh that turbo is hot as hell. Just talking out of my ass but it doesn't seem like a "hot" day would make too big of a difference. Its under the hood next to the engine.

I'm the paranoid type so yea, I've always idled her down, even if my driving wasn't spirited. Even then, I still hear my fan come on quite often afterward...

Always 30 seconds.
After hard driving, 60 to 90 seconds.

It's not just about cooling. Water cooling pretty much takes care of that. It's about lubrication.

I'm the same way. I got a TT for roughly $30 so figured why not for the piece of mind. It's really handy sometimes, because I don't have stuff to gather before getting out I just hop out. Plus, it gives me time to get the little one out before he wakes up from the car shutting off.

I don't bother if I know I didn't get on it all that much but when I know I ran her hard I'll let her cool from anywhere between 1-3 minutes

Yeah, I let the car sit for a second or two. Whatever the time it is for me to gather my backpack, iPod, and whatever else I have stashed in the car. I definitely let the car warm up before getting on her though.

After I pull to a stop in the garage, I'll let her run while I switch the A/C and recirc off, grab my wallet and cell, then count to 10. That usually doesn't stop the fan from coming on after I switch off the engine, but I figure I'm in Phoenix. It's a rare day in summer where temps dip under 100F!

yea, I'm still getting used to it but I like to give it 30-45 seconds to wind down..I'll usually spend that time winding up my iPod cable and sticking it in the center console.
I also wait when starting the engine, especially cold starts, until the RPMs drop below 1,000. My friend taught me that one...

I never run in hard for the last mile or so to my house, so don't think it's necessary for me.
I try to leave extra seconds before I shut down the engine, but when you are about to be late at work.....any extra second is too much to wait .... >_<

I have installed a VIPER 5901 with remote start and turbo timer set to 3 minutes in my '08 MS3 GT. It really gives me the peace of mind knowing that I get into the car and it's ready to drive. When I arrive at my destination I can get out and lock it without worrying about the turbo cooling down. It is awesome!!!!

I had fun driving home today -- both sets of twisties were mouth-breather clear. Ran through both at around 4,500 in fourth. As a result, he got to idle for a few minutes with the hood up.

unless you're on boost all the way into your garage, theres no need.
turbo technology has moved on since the 80's.

the mazda manual says a lot of CYA shit that's ridiculous and not required.
even borg-warner says its not needed. and they should know, since it's their turbo.
subaru removed that from their manuals ages ago, since its not needed.
