AutoZone currently has 5 qts of Mobil 1 and a M1 filter for $29 (through July 1). Last time I was there, they did not have the new cartridge M1 filter for the M5. I wonder if they can order it in if asked?

Advance also has a $29 special for 5 qts of certain Mobil 1 versions and a M1 filter through June 24. I haven't seen the M1 cartridge filter on the shelf here yet either.

I'd think that they'd be open to subbing another filter if they can't have or order the M1 cartridge in - or just buy a M1 spin on for another vehicle:)

Go to WalMart and buy the Motorcraft equivalent of the filter. Since Ford/Mazda are partners, you can't go wrong. It's less than $4 at Wally World.

M1 oil has been demonstrated to be seriously deficient in wear protection for some time. The numbers I've seen are so bad that they don't even come close to meeting the requirements of the certification mark the bottles carry. Although I expect they may have FINALLY reformulated by now to meet bare-minimum spec, why in the world would I give them my money for having lied to me (by keeping the certification mark on their bottles when they didn't meet spec)?

While you're at the evil empire getting the Motorcraft filter, pick up some of the Motorcraft-branded oil. That or even the Supertech will protect your engine better than the M1 has for quite some time now.

I have used the Motorcraft oil since day one. 87,000 miles later the engine still runs...

bulwnkl - I use the the Supertech Full Synth 5w-30 in the wife's Forester. Excellent protection at $16.99 a jug.

Reviews are here - http://www.rateitall.com/i-218610-wal-mart-super-tech-motor-oil.aspx

Anyone seen the 5w-20 full synth? I sure can't find any at DC-area Wal-Marts.

Not bad, though Wal-Mart carries 5-Quart jugs of Mobil 1 for $22, and you can buy OEM filters for around $5 online

Oil filters, five for $23.80 (plus shipping if total order is less than $100) plus free oil filter wrench:

"AutoZone currently has 5 qts of Mobil 1 and a M1 filter for $29"

Not exactly a smokin' deal. WalMart near my house has M1 for $22 and my OEM filters cost me $7.39.
