I use hard cleaner to start and what ever metal polish I have around. My muffler is usually full of crud as it doesn't get cleaned to often. Maybe once every 3rd wash when I'm driving the car. I'm not driving the car now though.

neverdull ftw. i use it on my exhaust tip, intake pipe, and header, comes out looking amazing everytime. ive also found that it does quick work of any tar or grime that is stuck on the exhaust

I use the small mother's powerball with the mother's metalshine on my 3" rolled stainless steel tips on the mustang, literally 2 minutes each and they look brand new.

I have used nevrdull, and nano polish, and many other polishes, compounds and such, trust me, the powerball with metalshine works better than all of them for the exhaust tip, there is ZERO elbow grease involved and it takes only a few minutes to do to 18" by 3" rolled tips. It may be a gimmick, but it has a niche.
The only other thing I would recommend is Brasso, but that crap can do major damage if your not careful.
