Great news for Cobb spring users needing dampers

I Sent an e-mail to F2 Performance asking if the Koni 2100 FSD kit 07-09 Mazda Speed 3 Hatchback will work with Cobb springs. These have adjustable rebound control and they sell them with Eibach lowering springs.

This is the response I received:

"These will work with any springs as we have used them on other vehicles with different springs...these are a good addition to any car. And with your CobbSprings it will work great...thanks and take care."

Granted, they do want to sell product, but it sounds interesting to me.

Edit: I`m too damn trusting! Did what I should have done in the first place and e-mailed Koni America. Not for use on lowered vehicles. Even just a little lowered.

Edit #2: Heard again from Koni and the Koni Sports should work well for us.

They lied. Koni says not for lowered vehicles. Even just a little bit lowered.

Koni yellows would be the best choice IMO, that way if you need to firm or soften the ride up alittle you can.

Koni responded a second time with the following.

Question: Will these dampers work on a Mazdaspeed3 equipped with aftermarket springs that provide a one inch drop and are 15% stiffer front and 25% rear?

Answer: The Koni Sports will work well in that application.

The answer about the Sports came straight from Koni.
I`ll never trust anything F2 Performance claims again, but I have to figure Koni isn`t going to risk their rep by giving out false claims. Especially since they were crystal clear that one damper does not work, but the other does.

FYI,

I've dealt with Ricardo at F2 in the past (I used to drive a Focus) and it's been my general experience that he is a bit aloof and tends not to know what he's talking about...He also once sold an item right out from under me that I had agreed to buy and was awaiting his payment instructions on.

So yeah, I would take anything he says with a grain of salt.

I too would tend to listen to KONI as well but evan at that would still be somewhat cautious. You should save that email so that IF in the future you DO have a problem or premature failure, there is no issues with warranties.

Currently 10% off from Koni.
Tire rack total pre-tax and shipping was about $640, I think.
They are adjustable too, which is probably why you can use stiffer springs. Just start out with a higher rebound control setting than you would normally.

The other ones that I originally looked up get some sweet reviews and will work with stock springs.

FSD shocks are usually not inteded to be used with any lowering springs. Koni has okay'd that certain springs will work with the FSD shocks. The fact is, when you lower the car, the shocks are seeing a different frequency level and it will make the shocks stiffer
