warranty trouble...

I have an 06 Speed 6 and I need a repair under warranty. I have 5k left on the warranty but only my own service records. I was refused because the repair is HUGE and my records weren't enough.

The problem is with a valve, the variable valve timing in the cam. When the dealer opened it up the engine is sludged. Two dealers said a new engine is the best route but I don't have thousands to spend. Also, both dealers said they had seen this type of thing before, they made it sound like it is pretty common. Any recall info? Any ideas on how to get it covered under warranty? Anyone had any experience trying to get Mazda to play ball and cover it? I just don't know where to begin to get Mazda to cover it. I'm a rookie to this type of thing, any ideas or suggestions are welcome and appreciated...

I don't quite know where, but if you do some digging on the site, I believe there was a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) about some component of the VVT system on our cars. I will dig around, see what I can find and edit this post if I find you a link.

Ok, I couldn't find anything. Worst come to worst, get a lawyer to help you out. Shouldn't cost TOO much and it's almost guaranteed to get the work done under warranty. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Keep us posted.

i would start calling the big boys and writing them letters, as soon as they hear it they will send a nice businessman out to be on your side. they are far more generous than the dealers since all dealerships are pretty much fucked in this recession, they are doin anything they can to get the customer to spend money. you will get a corporate assesser to come determine the engine. that whole records thing is the biggest load of crap i ever heard. start collecting names directly from the people and make it seem like corporate is on their way. they may just shiver a nice warranty out of their careless spines.

Lmao. No actually this sounds like a pretty straight forward and to the point approach. I'm gonna say +1 to this one.

Didn't change the oil on the recommended intervals?

Burden of proof is on the dealer that you were negligible to the car. Get your oil out of it and send it for a used oil analysis, and see what comes back. Get a lawyer and go from there.

Any mods or anything major done to the car? If so, that might be another problem.

I have only had the car for 8 months and have changed the oil twice. I don't have any maintenance records from the previous owner. The dealer said that the previous owner must not have changed the oil. I have met all warranty standards but because of the lack of records for the life of the car I am not going to receive anything under warranty. The 2 records I have are not enough according to them.

Question, would neglecting to change the oil cause the Variable valve timing to go haywire? I really don't know how it all works.

As far as mods and such, I have everything stock. No mods.

Also, as far as getting a lawyer goes, anyone know of anyone that does this sort of thing often, kind of their specialty?

If you have had the car for only 8 months and all the services were done by the book while you had it. I would start going up the chain as fast as you can!

Beings that everything is stock on your car gives you more of a leg to stand on in this situation!

to OP, did you ever get anywhere with mazda on this issue? I have a similar situation where my engine is making and knocking sound and they won't cover it because I don't have all previous service records. I am the third owner so tracking down all records doesn't seem possible.

Curious to see if you were able to resolve your issue either with the dealership or with mazda corporate?
