The Mazda5 is like the Rodney Dangerfield of cars...
Even Jim O'Sullivan, the CEO of Mazda North American Operations, in a recent interview about the state of Mazda manages to mention every single car in their lineup except one model....

I wouldn't gauge O'Sullivans affection for the 5 based on that interview, whihc was more about a 10,000 foot view of sales and the industry. They really didn't talk about many cars in detail. The only place he mentions a list of cars is when he referenced them with respect to where they're built (re: RX8, CX7, CX9, Mazda6 all being built in one factory.
Bottom line is there isn't much detail about any cars in that article.
I use one data point to guage the Mazda5's success: that I see tons more of them driving around (at least 5 a day in the Boston area). I even parked nose to nose with one in Best Buy last week and ran into another owner when I brought ours in for service Saturday. This would have never happened a year ago. My dealer is also having a tough time keeping them in stock.

I guess O'Sullivan has greater worries with not selling his Mazda6, CX-7 and CX-9 babies as well as they should :D, This one sells on its own, so he better don't touch what is not broken ;)
But he has talked about the Mazda5 to the press before, a little bit clueless, but he has, LOL. Check this out:

A agree with both comments. I was being a bit facetious in my original post.. I do think the CEO does KNOW of the Mazda5.
I just don't think it gets the attention it deserves compared to the rest of the lineup... esp compared to the CX7 and CX9s which are piling up on the lots.

I just read the April 2009 issue of Consumer Reports...
Guess what car/vehicle made it on the "Most Overlooked Car" list?
