Started painting the engine & fuse box covers last night. Also sprayed the ends of my strut tower bar to match. So far so good. Will post pics when it's done.

Drizz-OH!

Project is coming along pretty smoothly. Finished clear coating the fuse box cover & ends of the strut tower bar and reinstalled on vehicle. Finished painting the engine cover & put 3 coats of clear on it. Need to hit it with a paint marker for the fine details and clean it up a bit. Hopefully I'll be finished tomorrow.

Drizz-OH!

Engine bay is wicked dirty from the storm last night, but here's some unedited pics of the newly painted engine & fuse box covers. Still need to clean them up a bit but they're basically done, minus a new mazda logo sticker for the center of the engine cover.

From the front:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Ionic_DaZe/Mazda6/DSCN0828.jpg

From the side:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Ionic_DaZe/Mazda6/DSCN0831.jpg

Through the hood:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Ionic_DaZe/Mazda6/DSCN0832.jpg

I know it looks white, but it's a bright silver, matches the CP-e intake piping pretty closely w/ natural light. Also not really pictured are the ends of the strut tower bar, they have been painted with the same glittery black I used for the covers.

Should be picking up my new Rotora slotted rotors tonight with the hopes of installing them tomorrow. Should be fun.

Drizz-OH!
05-23-2009, 01:58 AM
Rotors installed. Was a pretty simple install, except for the fact that one of the bolts holding on one of the rotors wouldn't come off with the impact driver and had to be drilled out.

Anyways, much more bite with these rotors and the OEM, and no more squeaking brakes!

You got the other bolts out??? Here in Wisconsin we just drill those out as there is NO WAY those are breaking loose even after one winter of salt corrosion, lol

MS6 door Sills went in Saturday, and they look amazing! The MS6 aluminum pedals should be here on Wednesday along with some other random engine bay nuts and bolts. I found some paint I like better than the current paint on my engine bay so I'll probably be redoing it this week.

I'm also a big fan of the LEDs, but I still go back to thinking that interior lights would be a bit ricey on my MS6.

They actually look pretty awesome Steve. I was a bit skeptical at first too. But I ended up going with Super Bright Crystal Whites in the front area. (Map Lights, Front door lights) and Red in the Rear Map Lights and it looks awesome. I will snap some picks tonight. I usually leave the front map lights off to "set the mood." lmao

Nice work Andrew! I like those hood dampers, got a link to them?
You can get the NR-G Dampers @ RPM (in polished or cf finish). I would have ordered there, but they couldn't get me the reduced PSI. Tein also makes a set and IIRC they're slightly cheaper.

So...finally the dead pedal from the Mazdaspeed6 OEM pedal kit so I threw that in. Ripped out all the plastic lower front bumper grille inserts and replaced with black mesh. Also replaced the silver mesh in the hood with some extra mesh I had from the bumper grilles, so now it all matches. Looks very clean and custom. Oh, and I also repainted the engine bay (engine cover, fuse box cover, ends of strut bar & all fluid caps). I'll post some pics up after I give the 6 a wash.

New engine cover paint job.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Ionic_DaZe/Mazda6/DSCN1426-sml.jpg

Hehe. It came out fantastic! Had the (pebble ash) paint mixed @ the body shop @ my work and 3x coated from a spray gun (no more rattle canning for me) and then 3x clear coated and then buffed so it looks and feels the same as the car doors. I just finished blacking out the letters with a paint marker.

This will be my 'show-only' engine cover. I have 3, one of them might as well look good lol.

The fuse box will be painted to match as soon as it arrives from Mazmart, as it will be a 'show-only' piece as well.

Eventually my cp-e intake will be powder coated a ridiculously high gloss black as well.

:D Thanks guys! New fuse box cover should be here this week and hopefully painted before the weekend.

Not sure if I posted it up here, but I ordered a new amp too for my subs. I guess the one I have now is only giving my subs 1/2 the RMS wattage they require. New class D amp should arrive this week as well.

Steering clunk fixed. New fuse box cover dropped off @ the body shop Thursday.

My subs blew out my rear window yesterday, so got it replaced today (getting it tinted tomorrow). I can only imagine how the subs will sound with a more powerful amp, which I'm still waiting for BTW. Still waiting on the end links to be delivered as well.

Until then, here's the most recent pic of my car.

The TWM STS bracket should be here on Tuesday (eagerly awaiting smooth shifting)

Weapon-X (Sniper) coils will be shipped as soon as the GB ends on 6crew (can't wait!)

Besides ordering those parts, haven't done much of anything to the car this last week, but here's some pics of my audio setup:

The wiring is pretty clean compared to how it was before. I plan to upgrade the speaker wire with the 10g clear cable from KnuKonceptz and run it under the seat, along with the power and ground wires to the cap & the RCA's to the amp, probably the amp ground & remote wires as well.

FUCK THE V6 INTAKE MANIFOLD FOREVER!!! Tonights install was the most PITA I have ever done.

The install was totally worth it tho. The WeaponX coils paired with NGK Iridiums (gapped @ .057) is an amazing combo. So far the car is reacting very well to the upgrade (supposedly +8-12 whp thru the entire power band). My car has never pushed me back into the seat before and it sure felt like it did tonight on my test drive as soon as the VVT kicked in. I was like: "Holy Shit! V-TAKKKK Just Kicked in yo!!!!!"

With the under body bracing, throttle body spacer, switch over to synthetic engine & gear oil, plus the new plugs & coils, it's like I'm driving a whole new car...and I LOVE it! I've been busy the last 2 weeks.

Thanks guys! It turned out much nicer than I was expecting.

So... re-rolled my rear fenders, replaced my coolant tank with a new one (I can actually see the levels now!) and replaced some other random trim pieces that have been beaten by mother nature over the last few years. Gotta keep it clean.

Think I'm gonna remove my Mazda6 trunk badge and hopefully get some custom exhaust work done tomorrow. We'll see!

Sup guys. I'm finally getting exhaust on my 6. Going the custom route coz I'm not completely satisfied with any of the kits out there.

It's just going to be a catback system, with 2.5" SS piping after the cats and SS tips similar to the ones found on the Tanabe Concept G Axleback system. I was talking to the shop and they mentioned removal of the resonator. I'd love a loud exhaust but I don't want there to be any rasp. Would removal of the resonator make it raspy? Also, I was thinking I would do a true dual exhaust after the cats instead of the Y-pipe. Will I run into any issues if I do that. Please let me know ASAP as I'm getting it installed Thursday.

The tips are a similar design to these, if not these exact ones:

They're not loud enough for me, and the custom install is cheaper. ;) Plus, if you haven't noticed, I'm not into the same shit everyone has. I like to be unique.

As of now, the resonator is coming out. If I decide I don't like it I'll have a Vibrant res welded in. It won't be that expensive.

Understandable. I actually like the fact that you're doing a lot of things with a car(and color) that aren't really big in the scene. You get my props for that.

I just asked about the exhaust install in general because I've seen a lot of 'custom' exhaust jobs that turn into a really ricey job and turn the car into shit. I'd hate to see you do that to yours. The Mz6 just doesn't seem to look right with big exhaust hanging out of the rear bumper.

Oh Steve don't worry. I'll still be running 4 cats so that should take care of any rasp problems. I just want a nice, deep, hella loud exhaust note. But like I said, if I don't like it then I'll add in a res and call it a day.

Personally, I think it looks awesome with canisters. Nirosh's car was my inspiration for the custom build (he's running the Tanabe Concept G). Here's a pic of his car, my tips will closely mirror his:

Exhaust is on. Sounds clean as shiiiiiiitttt! I changed my original plan tho. I was planning to go with 2.5" tubing all the way from the cat to the mufflers, but then I was under the car looking @ the system with the shop and then we were like...it's already 2.25" tubing, another 1/4" isn't gonna make a big difference, so I ended up just upping the tubing from the axle-back to 2.5" and changing the mufflers. They are the same as the Magnaflow canisters pictured above, only with a 2.5" inlet. Kept the stock resonator and it sounds amazing. A lot louder than I was expecting but it's a very clean growl. Louder and cleaner than the MF catback IMO.

No pictures tho since my camera sucks ass @ night. Hopefully this weekend, as tomorrow is going to be a ridiculously busy day.

Weeeee! Tomorrow is Dyno Day! Time to see if my new mods have added any power.

Previously I was @ 202whp and 182wtq with only the CP-e MAFci intake system (February 2008)

New mods since last run: Weapon-X Ignition Coils, NGK Iridium Spark Plugs, Steeda Throttle Body Spacer, Custom Exhaust.

Not sure if these mods will make any more power, but the car sure feels better which may yield some recovered hp's and torque's along the drivetrain: Synthetic Engine Fluids, Street Unit Rear Engine Mount, Custom Engine/Battery Grounding, Optima Red Top Battery.

I'm hoping to be in the 215whp range. We'll see!

So yeah...installed the SU rear floor bar last night.. Modded the trunk carpet so the bar can be visible from the trunk and when the seats are folded down. Looks awesome.

Performance wise - the car feels lower to the ground now in the rear and definitely more stable and secure in the rear end, much tighter too. The car feels much more balanced and the ride is not rough by any means, it actually feels smoother.

For the $55 the 'dented' SU rear bar cost, I'd say it's definitely worth it. You can't see the dents unless you're looking for them anyway.

New AEM DryFlow air filter installed today....HOLY SHIT!!! The car feels amazing now! Starts up much easier, idles smoother, accels smoother, shifts smoother with greatly reduced lag. Honestly feels like it made about the same difference as going from the stock box to the CP-e MAFci. My old filter was completely disgusting. Washing it now and the residue coming off of it is nearly black. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the cause of most of my recent issues. Maybe the filter was so clogged it wouldn't allow enough air @ the top of the RPM band to allow all the fuel to burn completely. But either way, my 6 is much happier. :D

Drizz-OH!
12-24-2009, 04:40 PM
Did an oil change today, my second with synthetic. Surprisingly, the old oil was disgusting after only 4K miles on its first synthetic batch. Hopefully that was just because there was still some crude oil that got left in the block when I did the first change. Put Mobil1 in again and it's driving so smooth now, esp with that new air filter I installed earlier this week. I got on the throttle a bit last night and I'm pretty sure I'm still pinging above 6K RPM's, which is leading me to really believe the spark plug gap is my issue. Eagerly waiting for the WeaponX plugs. When I change them I'll also do the EGR mod.

Bosch Icon wiper blades installed today... All I can say is holy shit! These are nice wiper blades. If you can afford the extra coin I'd recommend them. Dead quiet compared to what I had before (probably never been changed since my car left the factory) and there's no trail following the path of the blade. Plus they replace the whole arm so install only takes about 30 seconds.

Ordered the RacingBeat front sway bar on Friday, and my new WeaponX spark plugs have finally shipped out and should be in this week. :D

I put Bosch Icon blades on about six weeks ago, really happy with them so far. But, I read where they tend to wear out really fast...haven't noticed anything yet but I'm watching them closely.

Nice looking car, keep up the good work. :)

Thanks!! Actually....I bought them because it says on the package they last 20% longer lol. It doesn't rain enough in AZ to really use them, but when it does rain it pours, so I wanted the best.

So......my car is running a million times better. I changed the spark plugs from the NGK Iridiums to the WeaponX Iridiums. Never again will I take someone else's word on the size of the spark plug gap. The NGK Iridiums that I was running since October had a gap of .064!!!! JESUS!!! That's .012 WIDER than it's supposed to be, no wonder my car has been running like crap and pinging in the high RPM's. Checked and double checked my WeaponX plugs to make sure they're where they're supposed to be @ .052. Also, the MF-6 also stars up quickly now like it's supposed to. With the NGK's it was taking 5-8 cranks to get the car to fire up. Hopefully all is back to normal now. Also did the EGR Mod today while I had the IM off. Not sure of the difference it made but it's very clear that the EGR tube is too long for our vehicles. It honestly feels like I picked up about 10whp today, along with a much smoother power curve. As of right now, I am a happy camper.

RACINGBEAT FRONT SWAY BAR INSTALLED!! (breakn)

ZOMG! The install was the biggest PITA ever, but if we had all the correct tools from the beginning and weren't afraid to drop the subframe of the front of the car it probably would have turned a 5-hour install into a 2-3 hour install. Oh well... It's in!

Car feels ridiculously better in every aspect of driving (so far). More planted to the ground, of course better control and improved traction, and it actually appears to be riding smoother (only had it one the freeway so far). Will go out and give it a real test drive tomorrow if I ever wake up.

Thanks batou! Well I've been running the RB rear sway bar for almost a year along with all the other braces except for the GTspec rear trailing braces (ordering next month). Now that the front sway bar has been installed it really balances out the ride and since it keeps the car so level it allows both struts to take the impact instead of just one. IDK if my logic makes sense, but it feels much better and i have a great deal more control now.

ms6 - lol.

Replaced some burned out bulbs in my center console today, passed emissions testing and registered my 6 for another year. New tires are being ordered on Friday.

Drizz-OH!
02-20-2010, 01:57 AM
New tires installed last Friday. General Exclaim UHP's. Better grip and a much smoother ride than my Kumho Ecsta AST's, not to mention they're also 2 lbs lighter! Got a new alignment done today on an Enso dyno (badass infared shit! 1 of 5 in the entire country)!! The front was almost perfect but my rear camber was all jacked. The guy who did it (Eddie from Bullitt Automotive) said he just doubled the life of my rear tires with the alignment, so it was well worth the awesome hook-up price of $60. Also picked up my custom billet oil cap today! It's the prototype now (as the final design will be powdercoated) but it's the only one in existence!!

Stealth01
02-20-2010, 12:04 PM
You'll like the Exclaim UHPs, since you don't get any snow down there. I had them on the MS6 when i got it...great grip on dry roads, and pretty good on wet, too. I survived one winter with them, too.

Drizz-OH!
02-20-2010, 01:41 PM

First post updated.

Installed the GT Spec rear trailing braces last night. The car feels a little tighter in the rear end and definitely holds speed & traction better in corners. Also, they seemed to fix the creak in my rear suspension when going up steep driveways. I didn't think they would actually do anything but I'm very happy I made the purchase.

Also picked up a Fluidampr Underdrive Crank Pulley from a local member this weekend. Haven't installed it yet, hopefully soon though! Dynoing on Saturday!

Dynoed @ UMS on Saturday. Put down 200whp and 192wtq. Kinda disappointed with my peak numbers, but when you compare the graphs from yesterday to the ones from 2 years ago, I've shifted my power curve and I'm making power earlier, not to mention it's also a much smoother graph.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Ionic_DaZe/Mazda6/DSC_2555small.jpg

CEL is still giving me crap for the Fluidampr, but I snatched a DashHawk from a friend (upgraded to an AP) to test out for a while and see how I like. It's showing no CEL's for my car (current or in history) so I'm interested to see what it says when the CEL comes back on if it does. DH's are pretty badass though. I think I'll just buy this off him instead of installing my gauges.

Soooo....after about 6 hours of awesome the Bilsteins have been installed. Once I got the right tools and figured out what I was doing the rear shocks were a snap (probably 5 hours, which included 2 trips to Autozone and a bunch of messing around, then under an hour for the fronts lol). To my surprise both rear shocks were fine, but both fronts were blown (I thought the rears were blown lol). Needless to say, the car is riding greeeaaaat now. Very smooth but hugs corners like its on rails. Win!

And.. it might not be heavier than the MS6 shift knob, but its a lot nicer than them N/A 6 knob. If you're looking for a heavy knob, I'd get in on the front1ine knob GB (6crew), those knobs are wicked and they weigh like 1.5 lbs!! I'll be buying one if the GB ever gets in motion.

heh, i will admit the website is kinda second rate.
however, i guarantee he is nothing like dabears2k in terms of quality and reliability of service...

i can be confident cause Jaime Barone does business directly with him for the jbarone SSP & E4P Shift Knob combo.

^^Thank you! And that's the look I was going for. I modeled them after MS6 lights. I was originally going to do them like NA 06-08 lights, but changed my mind at the last minute coz this way was ridiculously easier to tape off, lol. I couldn't be happier with how they turned out tho!
