Like many others, when I saw the first photos of the new 3 in both forms I was a bit turned off. Even after seeing the first examples in person I was still not too happy. But now that my neighbor has one and I get to look at it more, I really like it. And now when I see others around I like them too.Stands out, at least to me, from all the other cars around it.
I am almost unhappy about this as I am buying a Subi Forester this week.

I like it, clear and simple, and frankly that's all that matters to me :)

The way the world is these days getting a laugh isn't such a bad thing.

I bought a black one, you don't even see the smile on it. :)

I have a Pro5 and I like it, but I've always wanted a Mazda 3. So I have them in the back of my mind all the time, thinking I'll eventually get one. I saw the ad on tv for the 2010 model and I was immediately turned off. Looks goofy, what are they thinking, etc. But I recently checked them out on the website and I must say it is really growing on me a lot. Looks more exotic than the previous models, IMO. And the interior looks pretty good, too. BTW, Can anyone comment on the info display? Is it readable at all? Looks kind of small...

I was only slightly put off by the new guppy faced smile. However once I saw the 2010 in person, I changed my mind. I like it now too. The Celestial Blue color is absolutely out of this world. (pardon the pun) And I intend to keep that color code in mind if I ever get a car repainted.
grille fix should be pretty easy. some people have no imagination i guess.

The info display is very easy to read. I've test driven the new 3 twice and have had no issues. Nav is also easy to read BTW.

Good to know, thanks! I checked some out on the dealer lot today and they look great in person. Love the metallic red and metallic white. I wonder though, what all that black plastic in the grille will look like after 50k miles of road debris, bugs and solar radiation...

The smile has really grown on me since I bought mine last week. At first, I couldn't stand it, but the interior is so much nicer than the 2004-2009's that I went ahead and got it anyway. Now I'm very happy I did.
I agree that the info screen is very easy to read. I can't comment on the nav since it's one of 2-3 options I didn't get.

Auto manufacturers pray for the the kind of 50/50 "love it!"/"hate it" reaction.....they already count on not pleasing everybody and to get a strong positive AND negative reaction is much preferable to disinterest......the designers of the new generation Dodge Ram pickup with the 'big truck' look got the same love it/hate reaction and their percentage of sales went from 6-10% to the 25% range.....not bad....
