Hi there - I've been doing a lot of car shopping/browsing lately - I have an 07 Saturn Ion quad coupe I'm trying to trade off, and a car that caught my eye was the '06 Mazda 6 GT (6 cyl) or the 09 4 cylinder.
I'd probably eat a couple thousand of negative equity, and just wondering about opinions - should I do it, opinions on the Mazda 6..basically I'm looking for a car that is fun to drive and I've had a hate on for the quality of my Saturn for the past year.
Any input is appreciated :)

If you're looking for a car with a sporty ride and don't need a lot of room, get the V6 GT. The '09 is nice with the 4-cyl, but I'd take the V6 over it any day. Is the V6 a manual by chance? If so, this is a no brainer decision.

The V6 is an automatic, is that bad? I've never owned a manual before, and I live in city, so I've always used automatics.
I actually don't need a lot of room, no kids and none in the immediate future.

...no kids and none in the immediate future.
Famous last words. Enjoy the surprise right around the corner.(wow)
...kidding. You know, I think you would be happy with an auto V6. A lot of people said I would not enjoy my 3-Series BMW as an auto, but it was great for me for the time.
I say go drive it and see how much you like it. Don't buy it on the spot. Go drive it, and then give it a week or so. If you find that you really, really wanna drive the car again and have done your research on the car's history... then go for it. :)

You could always pick up a nice 2006 Mazdaspeed 6. I think some bozo on here is trying to get rid of his lol (humpleg)

This is where the problem is, the car is 8 hours drive away (uhm) - there is one that is right in my city but its $2000 more and has about 50 thousand more kms on it. There is also a 4 cylinder manual 06 in the city as well.. forgot to mention that the one in my city has a leather interior and the one out of province does not. This is the one in the city: http://reginamazda.listingauto.com/en/usedcars/listing/details.spy?id=2650319. this is the one with less KMs but 8 hours drive http://www.canadatrader.com/result/detailinfo.aspx?ID=1351507&pgno=1&srt=10&r=edmontonalberta

Actually, out of province there is a niiice black one for about $26k Canadian. That would be about the price of a new 4 cylinder.. I dunno, I need my car to be a daily driver - I'd feel picky about driving a turbo charged car every day :/

I have an appointment at 2pm with my bank, and shortly before that I will go test drive the 06 GT (the one in city). Wish me luck :D
My bank sounds like they're willing to handle the financials, so I'm pretty happy about that - if I went out of province, I'd have to get a safety inspection, all that - so we'll see how the bank appointment goes!

I went to test drive it - what a powerful car compared to the Saturn! I want it.
Now, my trade in negative equity is gonna be like 5k - I can access about 3500 for a downpayment, hopefully my bank goes for it. Appointment is in 20 mins

so I gave up on buying it - I test drove it again and it had some rattles and a sort of a clunking sound coming from the rear end that I never heard on the first time around.
Guess I'll keep looking! I might even go to a Mazda 3 if I can find a used one on a good deal :)

There are a lot of Mazdaspeed 3's from 2007 and 2008 going up for sale. If you like the hatchback they are very nice cars. Also the four door 2.3L 4-cylinder Mazda 3 is a very nice car as well. Great styling and very adequate power from that 2.3L.
Good luck!

I found a place out of province that is selling Mazda 6 GS models from 08 at around 14.9k, 15.9k Cdn. From what I can see on the site, www.kramermazda.com
I'm so tired of car shopping, this negative equity is really killing my momentum :)
