I have found several pictures and of MSP's with p5 headlights however I am unable to locate a how-to for the swap. To make a long story short I need new headlights. I'm thinking of swaping in the p5 headlights on my MSP however I do not know how to go about the electrical side of the installation. Does anyonw here know?

Edit: Just for those curious why the p5 head lights. I want to go with blacked otu p5 headlights and install the DDE kit! I know im a ricer. lol

PM dj dub. He just did his a few days ago.

Thanks, I pm'd him and got some information from him. He gave me the below.

Protege5 lights
9005 high beams
H7 low beam bulbs or hid kit
H4 Reverse plug/harness
9005 Female connector

I did ask if he can make a how-to.

He sent me this...

It's not that hard, basically you're just getting the connector for the car and the connector for the high beam then joining the ends of the wires together, along with the hid wires, to make your own plug-n-play setup for the headlight swap.

You need #5005, female 9005 connector
http://www.suvlights.com/images/Different_sockets_01.jpg
You need #5028, male H4 connector a.k.a. H4 reverse harness
http://www.suvlights.com/images/male%20headlight%20sockets_lg.bmp

You can get both sets at suvlights.com for 50 bucks or you can save some change and get the H4 harness from ebay. They don't really have any 9005 connectors on ebay, just 9006 which is very similar but won't work.

Then, after you have the harness's, you use the bottom half of this wiring diagram.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3142/2796672082_e1194f3c24_b.jpg

If you want your lows to stay on with the highs, you don't use the middle top wire on the H4 harness. One is the hot which you wire the hot from the hid to and the hot from the high beam. The last wire is the ground for the high beam so you wire the high beam ground to this last wire. Then all your left with is the ground for the hid kit low beams, you just ground it to the car. Put it all together nicely and boom, finished.

Can someone help explain this to me...

Ok so you need two of the below(one for each side)

#5005, female 9005 connector's
http://www.suvlights.com/images/Different_sockets_01.jpg

#5028, male H4 connector a.k.a. H4 reverse harness's
http://www.suvlights.com/images/male%20headlight%20sockets_lg.bmp

What about the other headlight? I do not know if the 9005 connector is for the high or lows on the p5.

The part #5028(h4 connecter) connect plugs into the stock headlight harness. From their you take the power source off of the h4 connector and use it as a common power for the part #5005(9005 connector) and whatever the other headlight connector is... Im lost. lol

Its hard to describe without pics. lol.

Yeah, you need two of both, one 9005 per headlight and one H4 reverse per side. The 9005 is to connect into the high beam bulbs.

Here, I drew this up real quick to help. Should make sense now. lol.

Remember, H4 is for the car, 9005 is for the high beams and the hid kit has a regular hot wire and ground wire to hook up some place.

They're "Autopia" Fogs from ebay, if you search up protege fog lights, they're the best quality ones that have halos. The mounting bracket that is included is perfect for drilling into the underside of the crash bar to mount them.

Are those the ones that the halo changes different colors?

Yes, idk how it is now but when I bought mine, it was optional but it was free so I figured why not, there was 7 colors, none of which were amber, yellow nor white so I never really used them. Great light put out on these fogs though for sure.

I have those same ones. I don't care for the halos but the fogs themselves are bright as hell.

you get in a fender bender and your one off lights gets smacked your screwed. Using OEM parts you can still say 100% DOT legal as well as easier to replace and at the same time stand out just slightly. Just some food for thought.

I like the P5 lights because of the chrome sides of the light instead of the orange reflector.

Wiring it like this will keep the low beams on when you turn the high beams on/off?i think so. i havent done it, but im pretty sure it does. the lowbeams are always "hot" since thats a switched +12, and the highbeams illuminate when the negative pin is grounded.

Like different sizes? Or P5's have HID, or what? I always thought they were the same?

no - just look at the bezel. MSP is H4 since its a dual filament high/low. p5 has two seperate bulbs, 9005, and H7

The H4 connector I got off eBay is kinda cheap, so I'll be replacing that. Other than that it was a pretty smooth install.

its early in the morning, so that diagram makes my brain splode a little bit. ill be back in a couple hours to look it over.
im not running p5 lights right now but when i installed my h4 hids i put in a relay and direct power to the ballasts and just grounded the ballasts to the chassis under the headlights where they are mounted. one wire stretched across the car.
ballast hidden just reach under for the bulb tails.

then all i would need to do is repeat the process for highbeams.
