I just bought a Mazdaspeed, and its been sitting for 4 years. My question is, what would be the best thing to do first. The car has some upgrades already. Pipping with intercooler, exhaust system, but what concerns me is that the check engine light is on, and leaving the car for 2 min. it idles low, then go back to normal after 3 min. and its blowing a light grey constant smoke from the exhaust. I was just thinking it is because it has been sitting for to long, or what??? Since a few of you alredy have mazdaspeed, I just needed some advice, because i love the car. Thanks

take it to an autozone and get the CEL codes checked...that would be the first step.

Another concern is the BOV...don't know the brand, but should you be able to hear it under the hood, by just giving it gas? This is my first turbo car. Thanks

Where did you buy it from? Do you have any pics of the engine bay?

I bought it from a guy who bought it from an auction...as soon as I download the pic's in the pc, i'll put them here. I'm new with this car, but it already has a few upgrades. But I would def do the oil change and get the CEL scanned first.

last season I parked my car for the winter with 92 octane in it. I used a fuel stabilizer but over time the octane levels will still drop. Long story short the car ran like a bag of dog shit come spring. It even threw a CEL and would hesitate all the time.

Your best option is to get that fuel out of there ASAP. Put 94 Octane in it and do a full fuel flush. That is most likely the cause of the exhaust smoke and rough idle.

If that fuel was sitting in the tank for that long it is now paint thinner and useless.

Also change your fuel filter if you can, it will probably be gummed up to shit with crap fuel.

Take the plugs out, inspect them.

Change oil

Pretty much a full tuneup.
