I am trying to paint my engine cover, and figured it would be a lot easier and probably look better if I could get the MAZDASPEED emblem off of it. Anyone have any clue as to how to do this, and if I do it, is there a way I can get it back on/get a new one and put it on?
Thanks

I'm not sure but in may be some type of adheisive. Just take off the cover and look on the bottom and see if there are any pegs holding it on.

Ya i checked that out already. There are no pegs or anything. It's probably some sort of plastic polymer that is holding it on though, and that would be a bitch to mess with cause it would ruin the emblem if i tried to pull it off... This is a dillemma because I can't stop now haha!

have you thought about carefully taping off the emblem?

That was my first idea, but whoever had it before me somehow got crappy, grimy, fading paint underneath the emblem, and if I tape it off, the paint will not be covered up... Maybe I could bend it up around the edges and wrap the tape around...?

Yea, I'm sure you could do that. I wish I could help ya more but I don't have an MSP so I dunno anything about the cover lol.

Nah you should be fine. Just make sure you do all the right prep work and you'll be ok. The easy part is painting it.

If you werent worried about messing up the emblem how would you get it off? (I have the cover that came with the car but it looks like someone cracked the emblem trying to remove it so i bought another one and i want to paint the one with the messed up emblem)

^^Just try to bend it up with a screwdriver (it is just cheap aluminum) and then just keep going around the edges until you get it all the way off. Just want to warn you, it will be completely destroyed. I'm pretty sure it is bound by a plastic polymer underneath it, so good luck with that part, but I think a screwdriver would get teh job dun.

I am getting some heat resistant black spraypaint to do the cover and then I am getting some heat resistant orange to go over the DOHC-16VALVE part. I also have a heat resistant gloss paint that I am going to spray a few coats of on just for the "showroom finish"
It takes a ton of coats, and don't forget to sand it before you start to paint, and maybe go over it with a degreaser and wash it off too. It takes a long time, you can count on that. So far I have had it off for a week and still am working... (Not religiously, been pretty busy, but you get the idea)
