View Full Version : Broken Motor Mount?

Ok, so I think that I have a broken motor mount or trans mount. The car tends to jerk around if you don't really concentrate on your shifts and there is alot of movement in the stick if you are in low RPMs, on and off the gas. I looked at the front mounts yesterday, and the one on the passenger side did look a tad worn, but nothing really looks broken. I haven't had a chance to crawl under the car yet to look...maybe this weekend if the rains stop long enough...
Is there a weak mount, or a problematic area on these?

I have heard of the rear mount giving trouble. I had the AWR front installed but without the back mount in it caused the tranny to hit that bar that the front motor mount is on. so i installed the back and i love it. i can barley feel any viberations at all sitting at a stop light unless the AC is on, and at take off i get some viberations but nothing really bad like everyone says. if i were you i would get the front and rear mounts.

Hmm, maybe that is where my clunking/knocking sound is coming from. I have the SLS front and passenger side mounts. I checked my transmission mount and it looks okay. My rear mount must be definitely gone though. Hopefully the noises and sloppiness and jerking all go away when the other mounts are put in.

The transmission mount and passenger wont really effect as much as the fount and rear considering the direction the engine would torque, I have a torn fount and back mount, replaced the fount and it helped out ALOT of my engine twisting and clunking and ect. There is still some because of the rear being bad. But the fount holds most of the torque.

see that was the same reason i thought mine was bad all the jerking and the klunking coming out of the engine bay when i went to take off but it turned out my rear mount was perfect i just needed to install the rear mount.

(shrug) huh?
So, we have 4 mounts? And a trans mount? Interesting...

We have a front, rear, pass side mount and a tranny mount. that is a grand total of four.

Use a really long pry bar and wedge it between the front mount and bracket while checking for any excessive freeplay. More than likely you have bad MM bushings that are dry rotted causing the torque lash.

replace them all. if one is shot, all the others will follow. just do yourself a favor and buy them all at the same time.

Your rear mount is shot. Mine had the exact same symptoms and my rear was ripped apart as seen here:

i totally agree...i had the same thing going on....and i thought my pass just looked a lil torn.....
well the front mount, the bushing fell out from being completly torn apart
the pass was also in two pieces
the tranny mount was ripped all the way through on one side
and the rear was starting to rip through

+100. If you only replace one or two, it still leaves weak points which will put a strain on the new ones, causing them to go bad even faster. And the price difference really isn't all that bad. I spent like $200 for all 4 (1 from Ken at PG and 3 on the FS forum). Might also want to do it soon. If they're shot, then your exhaust will be next to go. I didn't realize mine were shot until my exhaust snapped in half (as you can see in my mods...haha).

Awesome, well, I will be jacking the car up tomorrow and crawling underneath to check the rear one and the tranny one. I will probably do the rear first in order to get ready for the next AutoX in two weeks. I am kind limited time with a heavy work load over the next month or so. I mean hell, I am at work on a Saturday! (jerkit)
Next question being, where is the best place to get these? $50 a piece roughly?

You should be able to find some good deals on the fs forum. But if you are looking for new, I'd go with Ken at PG.

Well, my rear and transmission mounts have been replaced to go along with my relatively new front and passenger mounts. The car drives much better in terms of shifting and lurching. I find the vibrations are not bad at all. There is a lot more noise in the cabin though. You hear the engine more as well as the transmission. There is a lot of whine coming from it and I don't know if that is normal or not. It did whine before, just not as loud. The whine has been there since I got the new tranny put in.
