Hey guys, I'm going to be putting my new engine together (Thanks Bala!) this weekend and have a couple questions about gaskets. I've got most of what I need, but with all the researching and reading I've got myself a little confused haha. I've looked in the service manual way too many times and its all running together, haha.

Whats the deal with the oil pan gasket, on rockauto/autozone etc it looks like it is just for the lowest metal portion of the pan and everything else gets rtv? On the Montgomery Mazda site it shows some extra pieces of gasket, are those for non-msp pans or am I missing something?

What about the oil pump, I can't seem to find a gasket for that listed anywhere but I see pictures of a gasket with new oil pumps?

What about the area around the rear main seal, theres a piece that bolts up there, same question, gasket?

Is it safe to say that anything that I don't find a gasket for in the service manual uses rtv? Anyone recommend anything different than the typical rtv, good or bad experiences with anything?

Lastly, any tips or tricks for assembling this thing, I'm very experience with general assembly stuff. I've got all the right tools and a mechanic friend helping out. I guess if theres anything that you can only know from experience please let me know!

Thanks

(sorry wasnt expecting to write a wall)

The only one I can share my experience with is the oil pan. I used RTV black on it and it worked amazing.

Thanks guys.

I should probably clarify, I'm not assembling the engine internals. I have an assembled head, minus the cams and a short block, so its all the external stuff. I've read about measuring the shims for the cams.
