I was looking to get this sub and I was wondering if it would work with the stock kenwood amp. I am on a budget and this fits it and I know it wont fit in the stock encloser plus that POS is all cracked up which is why i'm looking up to upgrade.

if it's underpowered doesn't that blow your sub?

i want a 10" sub so do you guys got any recommendations for me? I know close to nothing about car audio and my friend will be doing the install for me so any advice is apprecriated. and my price range is 80-100 for a sub and I'm not sure if I want a vented or non-vented sub box. I listen to a lot of hip-hop music.

It can, it will take a lot longer than if a sub is over-powered, and is caused by "clipping".

A vented box will give you louder sound but not hit as hard. You will also be able to put more power to the sub. A sealed box will allow the sub to hit harder and provide a more tight, clean bass. For hip-hop music I would recommend a ported box.
For a sub I would recommend a MTX TR5510-04. They are well built and can handle a range of RMS power. Be sure you get the "-04" model as that is a singe 4 ohm voice coil and would work well with the stock amp. A TR4510-04 will also work, but are not as clean and upgrading to the TR55 is a much better value.
But BEWARE!!! I am going to assume you are building your own box, so no matter what sub you get, build the box to the manufacturer's recommended dimensions. You can EASILY blow the sub in a ported box that isn't built properly.

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it but why is the MTX better than the JL audio sub I was looking at? Another thing is that I wasnt trying to go over 100 for a sub and because I was looking to spend no more than 150 total. I'm on a budget right now since I'm just using my left over financial aid for this lol

a vented box will hit lower notes harder than sealed....i have a ported box.....and i put it next to my friends sealed...mine hits alot harder but lower...the sealed has a wider range if that makes since

edit: but a ported box can be a pita to build(volume and tube diameter/length) and tuning is a lil bit harder.....took me awhile

The MTX is a better match for the stock amp. Using the JL would put an odd loading (3 ohm) on the amp and over stress it. The MTX is also more responsive to lower RMS power input. MTX subs also have a better build quality and will take more of a beating. You should also be able to find a 10" TR55 for about $100 if you search.

Also, I do not work for MTX, I just know my subs.
