Does anyone know who sells a cold air intake kit for the 2009 mazda 6 i sport sedan with the 2.5L engine? I was told autoexe makes a ramair but it costs alot of money. Any alternatives?thanks. tim

I would check the usual suspects - AEM, Fujita, K&N, Mazdaspeed...
Might be too new to have many choices.

Bump - Has anyone tried the 2.3L intakes yet?

No one in my neck of the woods stocks them to try a "test fit"

Bump - I was looking for the exact same thing, and sadly don't have enough money to try a 2.3

And as a quick side-question, how much would the autoexe cost?

We'll design and manufacture one as soon as I can get an '09+ MZ6 in the PDX area to let me do some development on their car. We've done similar designs on the 2010 Mazda 3 2.5L and got 8hp and 7ft lb of torque at the wheels in gains. Most likely these intakes will work great for the 2.5 in the MZ6, we just need a test fit and some time in the field to make sure they're getting good fuel trims, etc.

If you're interested in purchasing one of these as a beta test, drop me an email at griffith@corksport.com and we can chat about it. The intake is a short ram design, features a 5 layer silicone coupler w/ 4 layers of woven nylon bolstering, a billet aluminum, black anodized MAF Housing and a dry flow conical air filter element.

Here are some photos of the intake and components from the 2010 MS3...our MZ3 intakes share the same style MAF housings and filters - and we have multiple colors of silicone and filters.

Email me if you're in our area and want us to get you an intake.

Well, I wouldn't go for the silicone "trial" version but as soon as you manufacture the real kind for our vehicles, I'll be your first buyer.(2thumbs)

Well, we have one that is purpose built for the 2.5 and from photos we think it'll fit perfectly and utilize the factory tubing for the valvecover breather as well. We have an intake for the 2010 MZ3 w/ 2.5 liter which makes as I noted earlier 8hp/7ft lb at the wheels. I am not releasing them for a MZ6 until I can get one in here to do a test fit and test the long term fuel trims, however.

I'll go as far as Seattle, who has one? I'll be in Seattle next Wednesday night at the MazdasNW meet at the South Center Mall. The last time we were at South Center we installed a short ram on a 2010 MZ3 ;-)

Images linked below...
:
Help me find a car to do the test fit/fuel trim evaluation on and we'll release these. They're $179. If we released this we would most likely build an optional cold air induction box to isolate the short ram from engine compartment heat also. We have the details on that in a blog post here where we did a bunch of testing on the MS3 and MS6 using multiple methods of datalogging (DashHawk, Innovate Motorsports Thermocouple Datalogger, etc): http://www.corksport.com/blog/cold-air-induction-box/

If you have a 2.5L MZ6 in the Portland/Seattle area, email me at griffith@corksport.com

how much more would the addition of the cold air induction box add to the $179? I'm not in the NoWest, but I wish I was, time to gather the required funding! THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRODUCT!

Probably ~$99. Wish I would have thought to start doing the development on this earlier, the intake would be released by now :-/

Soon enough. I put the feelers out for a car all over the place including craigslist.

Just got a few folks from the Seattle area who didn't have a lot of time to give up their car, so we'll be getting a rental car to do some testing on in the next week.

If I would install the 2.3L CAI to the 2.5L Engine, would that generate any trouble of any kind? being the engine a little bit bigger?

I've been told that the mazda 3 2.5l is the same engine as the Mazda 6 2.5l.
Has anyone tried performance parts made for it?

I checked out corksport (http://www.corksport.com/2010-mazda-3/intake-exhaust-1/) and they seem to have CAI's for the mazda 3 2.5 and not the mazda 6 2.5.
Since it's the same engine I would think there would be no problem. Unless of course the electronics have changed somehow making this no longer work..

We're working on a SRI for the 2.5 in the MZ6 right now. The silicone coupler is different to clear the hood. If you use our MZ3 2.5 SRI on the MZ6 it'll hit the hood.

The new silicone has a more aggressive angle and a different valvecover breather nipple orientation for use with the MZ6 and early MZ3.

Awesome.
Best news I've heard in... well over a year anyways.
Do you have an estimated ETA for sale?

I am the new product development engineer with Corksport. I am finishing up a few of Jason's past products.

The SRI for the 2.5 MZ6 is now done being tested. We have sold a few pre-production SRI's for the car, but will have the product released as soon as our new batch of silicone couplers are complete and in stock.

Sure will, Steve - I considered driving down to pick it up since I'm up near Seattle, but figured the shipping charge was cheaper than the gas. But now I have to wait. The instructions posted on their site look pretty comprehensive, but I may post pics anyhow.

cheers,

Received the box on Monday and had to wait until Wednesday to do the install. The parts are nicely packaged in the shipping carton - and the instructions (same as what's in the PDF on CorkSport's site) are well written and easy to follow.

Here are a few pics of the process-

Freshly opened box with instructions removed:

Parts and tools laid out(I didn't have a 10mm long socket - go buy one!):

The stock setup:

All gone:

The removed parts:

Assembled RAI ready to go in:

Done and done:

Install took less than an hour, and I'm not really much of a mechanic - except on bicycles :-) (could be done in less than half an hour, but I'm kinda OCD and like to have everything in order).
Looks great and things seem really well made. Have not gotten to drive it much yet, so I can't say much about the performance aspect (later) but it does seem to pull better and feels torquier(is that really a word?). Has a nice sound when you get on the gas, too!

All in all - i'm excited to get some miles on it and see what sort of difference it makes.

Thanks to Derrick and Jake and the rest of the gang at CorkSport!

cheers,
Stephen

Just an FYI,
We offer different MAF, Filter, and Silicone colors to choose from, should you decide to go with a Corksport intake.
