View Full Version : Wastegate Diaphram blown

Hey guys,

I was tinkering around where the turbo charger was to make sure everything was OK and realized the waste gate was not opening and shutting properly.

I found out through my uncle who is a certified mechanic that the waste gate diaphragm is blown. He called up Mazda and asked for a price but they said that you cannot buy this piece separate from the turbo charger and that the turbo charger ranged anywhere from $800 - $1200.

My question to you is, do you know any online place that sells these waste gate diaphragms specifically for our cars? Also, I assume I should stay out of boost since the pressure is not releasing through the waste gate since it's shut...? I don't need the turbo to blow because of a minor problem. I'd like to get this fixed ASAP since my MSP is my daily driver.

P.S. my car is 100% stock except for an Injen Air Intake. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Randy(help)

forgot about that one...idk which of the two is better..i guess just look and see which is cheaper, or search the forums and see which one tends to last longer

depends what you want.... forge is adjustable, like stock

atp is cheaper, but no adjustability

I couple of people have reported issues getting the boost adjusted correctly on the Forge. I don't know if they had bad units or possibly had another issue with their car. Personally, I got a Forge because I like that it is adjustable and rebuildable (it is not installed yet).
I don't think that I have heard anything negative on the ATP unit. As far as I know it is not rebuildable or adjustable. You will get slightly more boost than stock, I think about 1psi. Hit the search button, there are a few posts on each WGA.

STAY OUT OF BOOST!!! I highly doubt that you would blow the turbo, but that is only b/c the engine will blow first. DON'T join the Zoom Zoom Boom! club. Good luck w/ your MSP.

I recently installed a new ATP and love it. I am 1 psi over stock. The WGA is a pain to replace( i needed another set of hands) I didnt want to worry about adjusting it incorrectly and having to take it out and readjust. I am sure the forge WGA is a great part, just a personal preference for the ATP. hope this helps!

The ATP is alot cheaper and holds boost more stable than the forge.

When my WGA was replaced, my buddy called this a Jesus Clip. Mainly cause you get it almost on there and it pops off into la-la land and you go "Jesus where'd it go?" It was a bitch to replace.
