How much power are they actually worth? How much money are they worth?
I bought my car as someone elses headache and a lot of work and money later I have a running driving car for a fraction of what it is worth. ( I did assume some risk because I bought it without being able to drive it or hear it run) When I looked at the car, the previous owner told me the cams were in it and that he would like them back. I replied that I'm not interested in messing with cam removal / install and it wasn't mentioned again. Long story short, I bought the car thinking the cams would stay where they are, but I just talked to him and he really does want them back. I don't want to be a dick and rip him off because I got a good deal on the car and he has been cool. On the other hand I refuse to do the work, and don't really want him coming over and tying up MY car and my garage for a day while he completes a relatively invasive job on MY engine. Bottom line is how much power will be lost up top or gained down low by taking them out? And how would you deal with this somewhat screwed up situation?

He sold you the car complete. If he wants the cams back how much is it worth to you.
The Twiggy cams are worth $400 - $450 used. For the job to be done correctly, the OEM cams will need to be shimmed to spec. For what it's worth, I'd offer to meet him half way with some cash, but that's me.

og there is a part of me that feels that way too, but he was taken for a ride by a couple of vendors, got discouraged / sick of thinking about and sold me the car - I don't want to kick him while he's down.
I have been thinking about offering him some cash, but I blew the budget getting the car running in the first place. I just can't keep throwing money at it. If it were you, would you go for $100 or maybe $150 and call it even?

He sold u the car, the parts are yours. I would keep them because tahts way to much work to "help" someone out. He should of took them when HE owned the car, not you. Unless it was stated and written down on paper that he can have them. You have the full right to keep them.

If he removes the cams and then the car goes down, who will assume to make the car run ?

The more I think about it, I don't want the cams messed with...
How much power are they actually worth anyway? I was doing some reading and found a lot of before and after impressions, but no dyno numbers. Anyone know?

All sales are final. I wouldn't let him touch it.

Those are the best cams for the MSP, if you live far away id give him the shaft and stop talking to him (in my book all sales are final unless he stated when you bought the car he wanted them back but once again he should pay for them to be removed). but if he is your friend i would give the cams back but i would make him pay a shop to do the work. you dont want some one to do a half ass job on the cams cause they can fuck alot of stuff up. but if you did do the swap job get a new timing belt and water pump while you are doing it.

my opinion...if you are a nice person, like mentioned above have him supply the parts necessary(cams, timing belt, etc) and have him pay for a shop to do it.....cause say he did do a half ass job and leave your car not working, would he fix it or just walk......
but if he caught me on a bad day....and i personally didn't know or like the guy i'ld tell him he sold it to me....done deal

I am sure it would cost him around 400 for parts and labor to switch out the cams, so its stupid, cuz he could only sell them for that much anyway, if anything explain the situation, come up with a fair price for the cams and tell him you will pay him later
do you know for a fact these are twiggy cams?

i'm not sure why there would even be a debate here. unless you specified in a contract written and signed you'd buy the car sans cams, why would you be inclined to give them back? swapping cams isn't like changing oil and something goes awry with your car you'll have alot to worry about.

(werd) he sold you the car as-is without a stipulation that he gets the cams...sorry about his luck...

All I know about them is that they are in my car and he said they are twiggys. They have to be something or he wouldn't want them back anyway.

I would leave the car as is if you like it. The car will feel dead or just like it lost its edge without the cams.
