Heres the problem... I have a MazdaSpeed Protege w/2-step and rev control. Im curious if it is possible to bend the rods if the 2-step/rev control makes the motor backfire. I have a cut-out and it is extremely loud when it backfires. It almost sounds like a shotgun. The 2-step and rev controller only interrupt spark, not fuel. This will allow for excess fuel to burn in the exhaust or detonate, I believe. I've already talked to the company that makes the product and they assure me that it would not cause this problem. I just want to know what everyone else thinks about this. So, feel free to add some comments... Unfortunately, I already bent 3 rods and I'm going forged. I just want to make sure that this won't happen again because of this.

If you go forged, dont worry about it.

It will not cause any trouble internally with the motor. A spark cut system is very hard on the manifold and turbo due to the extremely high EGT's.

I never use it for a long duration...but it also has this rev control. Its pretty much like flat shifting...or no-lift shifting(It controls rpms so they dont sky-rocket). Do you think that if it backfired at that moment, while no-lift shifting, that it could mess up the rods?

No it wont....... All it does is not spark, it wont hurt anything mainly, just your clutch. You are still safe dont worry to much LOL. Just go forged, because u can boost more then.

nope, if there is no spark the engine is not going to make any power. Also with the clutch in there is no load on the engine either.

Awesome...I hope I dont have any issues. I dont feel like spending $2500 again. I guess I should just blame the bent rods over running 15 psi on a stock block. It ran good for about 2 years with no problems. With the bent rods, I also scored a main bearing which welded pieces of it to the crankshaft. I just was trying to draw conclusions to why the main bearing went.

Kyle, I see your running the WOT Box also. I guess you have never had any problems with it? Or you haven't put it on yet?
