Anyone have any shots of an msp with 16s instead of 17s. I have never been a huge fan of bigger than needed wheels, and I think a nice 5 spoke 16" wheel might look good.

XDJ DUb is also running 16's on his protege that's converted to an MSP cosmetically. check out his build thread and you'll see it.

Justin pretty much what I had in mind = nice! I had a set of 13x9 Keizer wheels on one of my miatas and it was ridiculously sweet. Everyone else was spending a bunch of money on really big wheels and then spending a bunch more money on suspensions with no travel to bring the car back down. I had more than stock travel (konis and ground control) and a great ride height.

You can run as small as 15" wheels with stock MSP brakes and if your looking for a light weight wheel for cheap look at the early Mazda Millenia base model 9 spoke wheels.
15" X 6 1/2" and just 11 1/2 pounds. Not a lot of width though, They make great budget auto X wheels.

that looks awesome!! i'd definitely rock no larger than 15's on a miata if i had one, offset looks nice too.

the only misleading thing with justin's wheels is the tire sidewall height. In my opinion it is too short, but i believe you did that for ride height look? that'd be my guess. cause I ran a 205/50/16 and that even didn't look right. i also had a +40 offset. I would have love a 205/55/16. i'll post pics when i get home.

How to 16's compare performance wise?
Tires are cheaper, lowers the whole car,
Is there anything bad about running 16's, rather then 17's?

Personally I wish I still had my 16"s. They added to the overall comfort of the ride. Weight can be a huge plus too when it comes to 16"s. I loved them and never had a problem. I ran a 205/50/16 with a +40 offset. It was awesome!

i don't like the tire size, or the fact that they're chrome on that silver pro.. the spicy looks good though.

silver definitely doesn't look right...

they actually looked better in person. both sets were mine, I actually ran the chrome for a while.

I think the tire bulge is whats buggin me... almost has a muscle car look to it... and... well, not working for obvious reasons.. lol

yea thats due to the spacers. it made them stick out a little more than my car. I used 3mm in the rear he used 5mm. 5mm + the wider tire gave it that look. In person it looked aggressive as hell and looked really good.

I'm in Colerain. I've only had the msp for a month, but I've had two different mp3s over the last few years. I see my old cars around somewhat regularly but not many others.

Has anyone ever staggered the tires? I mentioned that I might look into some 16s and my buddy offered me a set of S2000 wheels for almost free. Bolt pattern is right, offsets are a little strange but might work, and that would just leave the fact that the fronts are 16 x 6.5 and the rears are 16 x 7.5 (on an S2000) I would put the wider wheel in the front.
Wagonbacker9
04-23-2009, 09:36 AM
whats the offset? I had low offset wheels on when I got mine and it was AWFUL. threw the alignment out and just... did bad things to the car.
thepope540
04-23-2009, 06:01 PM
6.5" are +55 and the 7.5" are +65
thepope540

I'm gonna do a test fit before I commit to anything. The wheels are almost free, but the tires are shot and I don't want to buy rubber until I know the wheels will work.
Wagonbacker9
04-23-2009, 07:41 PM
probably gonna have to spacer the 7.5"ers... 6.5's are basically stock mz3 wheels.
thepope540
04-23-2009, 08:11 PM
How much spacer do you think I'll need?
solo.
04-23-2009, 09:03 PM
Won't fit. Honduh's have smaller centre bore.
Wagonbacker9
04-23-2009, 09:08 PM
unless they're hubcentric, it won't be an issue. I'd say 10mm spacer would be about right... i duno, you might wanna measure once you get a test fitting.

i got inspired by justin's car and picked up a set of used Kosei K1 Racing 16x7s with +42 offset and 215 width. They look fucking meaty from behind.
I will try and snap a pic today but word of warning im not on coilovers yet so.. don't let it detur(sp) you.
