im should be doing this soon

seems like a simple job.... just leave the box inside the car to keep some sort of air circulation

also, the belt from the lx with no ac fits (BrianMP5T supplied this info)

i know i could just fix it i was wondering if anyone had done it. I was just thinking how much more power that would free up with our the ac pulley

It wouldn't free up much power since the AC compressor is on a clutch that only engages when the AC is on. What you would gain is only the reduction in rotating mass off the pulley itself, and about 60 pounds in total mass from the front end--I believe that's about the total weight of the compressor, condenser, and refrigerant lines. You'd also get a little extra room behind the bumper for a FMIC, and maybe slightly better airflow across the radiator.

If it were me, I'd be inclined to remove it all. For how infrequently I use the AC, I doubt it would be worth the cost of repairs. Depends on your climate though, I suppose...

what Year LX is this belt from. I have been under the impression that all 2.0's came with AC and that the belt must be off a 1.8???
Anyone have a part number for the NON AC belt that will work?

According to KBB.com
the 03 Protege 2.0 DX came without AC. I'm going to go check it out now
