Could be a loose connection somewhere. did you remove the turbo to get the new one on? I did and I had similar problems and It was due to not tighening a clamp down all the way and it caused a vac leak

no i dont have a boost gauge but im pretty sure the mechanic had to remove the turbo to replace the wastegate i just got a cel too last night and it started acting really wierd like it would boost a little and then none is it possible that the aftermarket wastegate is fucking up cuz it dosent have an adjuster like the stock one had?

Very unlikely the WGA has gone bad already but very likely you do have a leak under boost. If you max out the MAF you will get fuel cut.

If he took off the turbo take it back and have him make sure he tightened everything back up

You said you have no boost gauge but it will boost a little??? How do you know it's boosting?? Most likely something is loose, did he plug the Vac like back up to the WGA?? You can look and see that yourself. I highly doubt the gauge was bad. Most likely in install issue!!!

AND GET A BOOST GAUGE ASAP!!!!
If in fact you do have boost issues you will never know till zoom-zoom-boom
