Honestly, this is probably the easiest thing I've ever put on a car. They look fantastic compared to the fishing pole. I highly recommend this. Gonna be posting some pics of my MS6 soon.

If you're not up on spending $80-85 for a sharkfin, you can spend $15-20 and get a CX-7 antenna, that bolts right on as well. Again, much cleaner than the sharkfin.

how is it cleaner? sorry but i think a shark fin is a much cleaner look to our cars than any black pole coming off the roof of the car...its just a classier look in my opinion..but turnersteve im sure your very happy with your antenna and im not downing it...to each there own

I swapped my fishing pole for a CX-7 the day I bought the car. I picked up a sharkfin a few months ago and sold the other antenna. I prefer the sharkfin, but going from a 20" flexible rod to a 6" beefed up one is a cleaner look overall. The side profile is smaller since you don't have a big pole sticking up from the roofline. Overall, the sharkfin makes it even lower, which to me is the best look.
If I had it my way, the antenna would be integrated to the rear glass.

sorry just going by your pic of the car in the signature ...still has the cx-7 pole i guess...and yea i wish they integrated it into the rear glass...then we wouldnt have to spend anything on a sharkfin lol

I need to get a new picture with the sharkfin, but that's what it looks like with the cx-7 antenna. Stock was just too big.

How does the radio reception compare between the stock, CX-7 and Sharkfin?

In my experience, the stock to CX-7 was no difference. CX-7 to sharkfin I see very mild difference in quality, with the CX-7 being slightly better.

i dont notice any difference between the stock antenna and the sharkfin. reception is the same in my opinion with all of my local radio stations

Reception is still fine for me with the shark fin. The only places I notice are where there would have been a very weak signal to begin with, like my parking garage at work. Before, I think I had radio down until P2, but now it cuts out on P1.
I guess if you're listening to any stations with a weak signal now, they may get a little worse, or they may not. But for most stations you shouldn't notice a difference.

Thanks, my main reason for asking is that two of the stations I listen to most have fairly poor signals here, but I guess it's not a major issue.

Our cars don't come with the dual antenna. The sat. antenna will be on the trunk lid.
and where can i find the cx-7 antenna?
Any dealer can order it, just go in and ask. I believe Online Mazda Parts can find it for you as well. Should be around $20.

Sharkfin antenna reception around here is noticably worse than with the stock antenna. Not really a issue with me as I listen to Sat radio all the time.... If your thinking of doing sat radio as well, you may want to look around, as a few people have run the sat radio antenna thru the regular antenna hole, and covered the sat radio antenna with the sharkfin for a really clean look....

How would i go about installing a shark fin antenna??.. the stock one is driving me crazy.. its the only piece on my car that i absolutely do not like.. even the amber side markers dont bother me as much as this.. is it a simple snap off and back on?? are there screws involved?? any input or advice is greatly appreciated.

all you do is unscrew your long antenna...then get the sharkfin antenna and you screw in a wire into the existing hole for reception and use double sided tape and press the shark fin down...it works very well...i have had mine on since april

If you buy a used one and need the 3M gasket, they are $7 from VG. Just go to their page and contact them and they'll send you the info.

As far as I know, I have yet to see a how-to for this. Several people have done it, but not really written the how-to in detail.

I just got my shark fin in and installed it the other day... what a great mod! I should have taken photos for a how-to but its very straight forward.
I first cleaned my car just because I do so every week lol, then I wiped the area clean making sure there was no dust or leftover water. I unscrewed the antenna, just turn it and it comes right off. I then took nail polish remover and with cotton balls really cleaned the area around the antenna (you're suposed to use some type of rubbing alcohol). Then just put the shark fin on (without the 3M first) and align it how you like, took painting tape and put it around it so you have a guide. then with a hair dryer heat up the area on the roof making sure its at room temperature (I did this mod in my garage and it was a bit cold outside) so the 3M sticks well. Connect the wire in the shark fin to the existsing antenna base, screw in the bolt provided with a flat head screwdriver. Take off the paper and put the shark fin on aligned with the tape you had earlier. Press down for a minute per side and your done!
For me, I noticed no reception lost in the radio... everything worked out great. Only thing is that it took like 4 weeks to ship lol.
