Maybe you should ask the dealer.... Or check wherever it might say your car is the Federal or Cali model. This is strange.

Well I checked all the stickers on the car, and under the hood (to the right of the intercooler ducts) it says what emissions guidelines the car falls under. And mine is actually a Cali model.
My only guess is the dealer originally got the car in from there or I know sometimes MA falls under the same guidelines for emissions as CA but we dont have the strict CARB rules.
I flashed the car with the Cali map.
Anyone else with a MA car and the AccessPORT want to chime in?

I bought my AP from a forum member in PA. He said it read his MS3 as a Cali model as well. He didn't have any answer as to why though. It read mine as the federal model as it should.(dunno)

A lot of states use the CA emissions, not just CA.

Yeah, my car came from NJ dealer but the AP read the ECU as Cali...

It's definitely not uncommon. Many of the New England states sell primarily California Emissions compliant cars at their dealerships.

If it's the cali model you best check the trunk for illegal immigrants!!

they stopped making different models for cali a long time ago. All of the cars (from mazda) are the same now. It is just cheaper to tool the factory.

I'm pretty sure these are the states that have (up to this point, anyway) adopted California's emissions standards:
-Connecticut
-Maine
-Maryland
-Massachusetts
-New Jersey
-New York
-Oregon
-Pennsylvania
-Rhode Island
-Vermont
-Washington.

I'm in MA & I just picked one up from someone from Michigan. I hooked it up even though it said CA & have yet to experience any problems.

Yea, I think that's the way it goes, I live in VA but bought my speed in MD last year, and it says it's a Cali model as well.

yes sir. the stage 2 map i hit a wall at 2500 rpm. with the stage 1 map just for the higher boost i get 500 rpms of fuel pressure loss. it goes from 1600-1700 to 700 psi then ramps back up again at around 4800-5000 rpms.

That mean you are running a federal map with a cali car?

yez i never thought of that.....what woul dbe the effects of running a federal map on a cali car? better performance? lol. or are there certain parts in place to change the emissions? because if you think of it...your changing the map all together anyway. technically you would just be fucking your states emissions laws correct?

For my car, it wouldn't download the Federal map on my AP, so we did the Cali map, and then we realized that the car was a Cali model.

i ran the map again last night and i threw a random misfire code with a huuuug efuel pressure loss. bnot a brick wall anymore. im not sure what happened with the brick wall effect but now it does the correct thing.....stutter like a mother f and misfire. thanks shitty fuel pump!

So it seems that if a given state has adopted "California" regulations then the AP will recognize that car as a California and not a Federal car. So if you are in a "SMOG" state, then you will more than likely have a "Cali" car and should run those maps.

I think it would be opposite? It said CA on the AP, yet the car was purchased in MA. However, with the strict MA regs it could be a CA emissions vehicle, never bothered to check.
I've had it hooked up for maybe two weeks now & haven't noticed any issues. I have noticed more boost above 5500rpm, in 1st & 2nd, & slightly better mpg.
No complaints now, we'll see what happens in a few weeks when the mods go on.
