2005 Mazda3 SP23 Engine Problem

I'm wondering if anyone can help.....I am in Australia and have a 2005 Mazda3 SP23 with 45800 kms....today while driving the engine stalled and the car stopped....it restarted easily enough and i was able to get home but it continued to feel as if it would stall again....and it is also making an awful knocking sound from the engine area. :(

Any thoughts, suggestions, etc?? (shrug)

(And it will be going in for a checkup first thing in the morning!! I was just hoping for some thoughts in the meantime!!)
