Are you able to actually shift it into gear but it just doesn't apply power to the wheels or will it not go in at all? If it's the latter, your syncros might be bad.

Just a guess. Not too savvy on transmissions but I know a little bit.

I had the same exact thing happen to me about 2 weeks after buying my car, but it was 2nd gear. If you are out of warranty, be ready for about a $6,000.00+ repair. (The bill for the dealership just in parts was like $5,200.00) I was under warranty though.

They had to repair the full 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear assemblies, install a new shift fork and miscellaneous other tranny components. It took them about 2 weeks and a lot of bullshit from Mazda's corporate division.

I certainly hope you're still under warranty and have little to no mods done. Good luck.

Wow 6K repair bill. If that happened to me without warranty I would kiss my speed good bye.

Currently going through this myself. I am under warranty and they said they won't cover it because it was apparently my fault! I never beat on it (Badly :) ) removed my mods before taking it back and they are rebuilding my tranny and have had it for about 2 1/2 weeks now!!! Mine was my second gear though with only 8,800 miles!!! But I fought and bitched with the regional head inspector of warranty and he said I have to pay. I must say I am quite dissappointed with the service that Mazda has provided thus far over the past 5 years of Mazda vehicles (06 Mazda3 and 08.5 Mazdaspeed 3). This will absolutely be my last Mazda and look forward to owning an Evo or STi down the road. But just a heads up... my total bill as of right now is estimated at 4,400 dollars. So... take this for what its wroth!

Sorry to drag off topic, but I have a Cobb AP for sale in the FS Section if you're interested in buying one soon. Cheaper than brand new (It is still in Brand New shape) and free shipping. Here's the thread, again sorry for the minor thread jack.
