Hi Guys,
I've posted on Toprotege.com also.
I'm sure this has been covered a numerous times, but i'm in dire need of help in finding a new block.
The bottom of my engine blew out right above my oil pan.
Sounded like a drive by shooting - i had people ducking in the neighbour hood.
I was making a left hand turn, shifting into 2nd gear, and before i let my clutch out - BOOM!
I've been having problems with the Mazda Stealership and getting straight answers.
The engine our MSP, the FS2.0, is the same one in the ES 03 P5 and Sedan correct??
Edit: I just started reading the thread below about Protege Engines haha.....but i still want dirrect 411 hear please!! :(
Do i have to replace my head too? What are the chances? And how much approx. should a new engine cost?
HELP!!!

yes it's the same block. the only difference is that the msp motor has a windage tray(just above the oil pan) that on yours, may, or may not be salvageable..
you can find them on ebay for a couple hundred.. no you don't HAVE to get a new head.. but if you can source a long block(includes head and block etc)... it's prolly gonna be easier for you.

Yeah it's the same engine sort of.
You mean this thread? http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123737670&page=19
With out that windage tray you need to figure out a way to get the oil return line from the turbo hooked back up. You can either put the one from the MSP block if its not broken or plumb it direct to the oil pan. That's not the best way but it works. Unless you want to get that part from the dealer for $650.

Ok. I pray that i don't have to get anythign else, but a new FS motor isn't as cheap as i thought they would be. I figured they'd be around $500 for 70xxx km's. (or 45xxxmiles) on the engine

It fluctuates with the price of metal. A while ago when China was buying all the metal motors were expensive. Right now it's not that bad but they are still a little expensive but have come down a little. I got one a week ago for around $800. They usually go for $650 and up around there.

When i'm doing the engine swap - is the wiring the same between the donor and the blown one in my car? Is there any possibilities for Hickups along the way?
Basically, i have a guy who will do it. He has lots of experience with Most JDM imports and German Audi's (he has an S4 tuned to the tits making crazy power - he made custom shifters that are patened to him exclusively).
Ok. enough jargon. I want to be sure that he wont' be over his head with doing the engine swap with my MSP.
I want this to be a happy experience for him as i do for myself haha.
Please tell me any important details that i should note.

is the donor car a msp?
if so unbolt the donors motor, and your motor, swap. bolt up. hook up wires. done.
if it's not, like a protege or a p5 motor, you'll need to swap the windage tray. but all wiriing is the same.

Its very simple, the harness is the same just use the cars harness and any sensors if the ones on the motor a cracked or broken. Just swap over all the turbo stuff lines everything. The hardest part may be the oil return fitting but you can plump it into the pan if you broke that part. Just try to make it off to the side a little like the stock one.

My car is the MSP with the blown hole in the bottom of the block (most likely, i've trashed the windage tray). I won't be able to tell until i can jack it up.
Other than the windage tray needed to be swapped or replaced (i'll have to buy a new one or swap it off of my MSP if is ok), when i purchase the Protege5 engine (std.) and swap it in, everything will be still plug and play? There's not additional wires that i'll have to add to this engine swap.....because the engine wiring is the same between the P5 motor and my MSP motor? ( i know i'll have to do some oil pan customizing), other than that...anything else?

Ok - i'll take pics and keep ya'll posted on this job.
I found a motor with approx. 45xxx miles for $1300. It was the lowest in it's class without paying a stupid price for anything lower. I'm purchasing it tomorrow and i hope to have the install start on friday. Should be done by Sunday without any hikups lol.
Keep you posted

Try to get an american motor, it will gaurantee you don't get a Z motor with the high compresion. $1300 seems steep but if its good and you end up happy the price won't matter to much.

interesting....the windage tray. Does anyone have any pics of this off their vehicle?? Trying to find what it would look like. Plus, i'm sure that my oil return line is running through oil pan...almost positive (on my current motor).

It's not very easy to photgraph but there it is, the brass looking deal is the return line fitting to the block. Now that I look at it, it doesn't look that good. (shrug)

haha..that's funny^^ I'm laughing now because i had a few drinks on a patio downtwon london - i wasn't driving obvously (idhitit)
Yet, i'm mad cause i can't cruise.....so i made up for it today>
As fo your picture....That's what it looks like currently on my MSP block to be honest.
I've decided to spend a bit more and build up the motor with forged pistons and piston rods', inlcudeing better head studs and thicker gasket.....anyone see a problem with this idea....and have some direction where i can get pick up these materials.......??(glare)
Great pics,....thanks for your prompt attention to my request - you guys are very helpful!! xo

I've been searching and i want to confirm the FS2.0 engine block and head are identicle. Many of the mechanics that i've talked to, have a hard time believing mazda would make a turbo build like this.
Last time for wanting confirmations before i purchase this engine :)

same. no issues..
just because the mechanic doesn't know, doesn't mean it's not possible.

Good news, I found an engine for $400 with 94k km's (almost 60K miles it).
I'm picking it up tomorrow from the wreckers. I'm so blessed; my mechanic knows a guy who knows THE guy at the wreckers - hooked it up for cheap!!
They were orginally asking $1300 for a motor with 72k km's!!!(pissed)
Anyways...on a lighter note, Engine swap starts tomorrow after i pick it up in the morning.
Btw, for resale purposes of this car (incase i have to plan on selling), does the miles/km's make that much a difference for selling price? My originaly km's of 150k km's makes my car less valuable (what about now with 50 less?!)
Thanks'all!

That's good, lucky you got it at that price. Hopefully it is a good motor.

Awsomeness!!!!!(bow)
Got the PRO on the road yo!!
The MSP is responding much better than before. Seems like my turbo is spooling quicker and i can hear my INjen intake swallowing air in massive breaths, never heard it breathe so hard!!
Everythign is good except for three things;
1) My old engine blew two holes, one through the front side of the block and the bottom of my block leaving a hole in my new Flex pipe - F! (must've shot a piece of metal in there...(nervous) )
2) Rear end links are completely seized and i can't get them off - Frick! (Side note to the new engine being installed).
3) My mechanic charged me only $20/h - totalling $500 for install and $300 more in motor mounts - they were absolutely trashed!! I took pics, and i'll see about getting these uploaded soon. Total install including everything $1140
I had one minor problem. My engine light came on after driving it away 20 mins later. Ran the cord to diagnose it. The rear o2 sensor wasn't getting proper Voltage. It would hang around 0.8Volts and then drop to 0V. I was able to reset the code, and it hasn't come back on since?? I checked the sensor, and my mechanic said it could be from the oil that leaked on it...??
