View Full Version : Hawk lists incorrect part# for rear pads... WTF!?

So, I'm replacing the pads/rotors this morning, and I noticed the new rear pads look NOTHING like the old ones. I checked, and the part number on the box matches both my sales receipt and Hawk's application guide (which I used to specify the part when ordering from a local performance shop). Lo and behold, it's a completely different part than PG lists for rear pads on their website!

Hawk's p/n: HB436F.535
PG's p/n: HB158F.515

wrong pads on the top, right pads on the bottom.

Doing a p/n lookup on Hawk's website, the brake pads I ordered (the wrong ones) come up as a protege application, and the parts on PG's website come up as a RX-7 applications... WTF

So pissed right now, but luckily I've got the week off from work so it's not a big deal if my car is up on jackstands. Hopefully I can get the right parts here quickly though.

Anywho... I answered my own question while researching for this post, but I figured I'd put it up as a warning to anyone buying pads. Probably best to check with someone who knows their shit, rather than trusting the mfg is going to have the correct applications.

I'm forced to point out that you could have saved yourself the trouble by buying them from PG to begin with... lol. that said, hope you get it resolved quickly!

I know. But the performance shop mentioned above is a sponsor of our local mazda forum, and they were running a group buy for us on a whole bunch of parts. They are traditionally into the DSM market, but have started to get into mazdas with the MS3/MS6 platforms.

The Mazdaspeed Protege uses the same size pads for the rears as the RX7's. That's no mistake.

those pads on the top definitely look like the pads on my 7.

top ones look similar to the MSP fronts if I recall.... but i can't gauge size, and that could make all the difference.

It's a mistake since Hawk's application guide specifies the wrong pads for the MSP :/
